Here in Vietnam the balut actually doesn't look like OP, none of the feather and eye and pinkish meat, you go to jail if you serve that thing out here. The "meat" part of balut essentially looks like the "egg" part, just white and less chewy, its pretty good, I've been eating that for 20 years and I didn't die so you know it's safe.

the egg that ultra giga faggot OP posted is raw
real cooked egg has deep flavors from the bones and meat of the under developed duckling, the soup when slurped with salt and pepper is very good
yolk is tender, but cooked throughout.
white is hard and crunchy like cartilage

Yeah I've seen it in a few videos and it looked like how you described. Any suggestions of some interesting things to eat while out there? Also, not food related but what's the weather like in July, will it rain a lot?

There's a Vietnamese supermarket near me and I went in our of bored curiosity and they had some wild shit in there. Trays and trays of balut, aisles of century eggs, duck heads, ox penis, live eels, skates, geoducks, tripe and stomach at a buffet style serving bar, even a whole roast pig hanging at the deli. Pic related is dried sea cucumber, $200 a pound.

The one I ate looked like this, but was even more formed. Taste wise it smelled like cooked duck, texture wise it the bones and beak was more rubbery than bone like. I could see the feathers but didn't notice the texture. And also inside the white of the egg becomes this hard rubbery puck. I even opened the ducklins ribcage and saw it's internal organs, digestive track etc.

Rationally I ate duck before, and I ate duck eggs, so what is actually the difference? It's just the middle ground between the two, and the morality is no difference. But I suppose "irrationally" all I could thing was what in the fuck is this gook shit, and I was muttering in my head about chinks and zipperheads and their backwards countries.

What I remember about Chinese food as a young kid growing up in Hong Kong was not really that it was “bad” (which it often was, of course) but that the stuff my parents ordered for us was almost all frozen, and that I would generally throw out whatever that they brought home. This was in the days before a proper kitchen, and there was a tiny freezer unit that could only hold what was on the top shelf, and often that was some random combination of Chinese or Indian takeout. A couple of times a week we’d have what seemed like the best of everything, but the rest of the time it was pretty terrible: a frozen piece of some meat and whatever was frozen with it, a tub of rice, and maybe a can of green peas, and maybe a can of baby corn. There was a few times in my childhood when we were treated to something really good, like fresh fish that one of the waiters brought home in a plastic bag. So for my first couple of decades, I never actually ate a lot

I wonder if I would be able to sell these in Canada for three times the price of a normal egg?
