Well that's the thing, they can't pay more or the food would cost more and the pizza delivery business operates on razor thin margins, we're talking like 4% operating profit. People were giving Papa John shit for complaining giving his employees healthcare was going to cost him 11 cents more per pizza but when that ends up being like half the money you're making of course he was pissed. Obviously they should have healthcare and get paid more but the Americans at the level of buying chain pizza delivery care way more about how much food they are getting per $ than if it could taste measurably better for an extra dollar

There's an additional problem you are no doubt aware of, which is the actions of large pizza chains, by virtue of being so large and ubiquitous, have informed on our collective opinions about what exactly a pizza "is" to the point where my cousin went to Italy and complained the pizza was burnt and didn't have total cheese and ingredient coverage and was too thin and chewy (and such small portions!). He literally thought it was weird and complained to the waiter. I've been to Naples, the pizza is great

Thankfully if you live in a city with at least 150k people it is possible to get a great pizza, of different styles including Neapolitan, but I feel sorry for the small town fucks who have their brains broken by garbage and can't even enjoy a good one when they encounter it because it's not what they're used to

That analysis is spot on. I had some of the best pizza of my life in Alexandria, VA and the city's population is barely above 150k. You gotta admire the power of brainwashing people though. To think that most of them demand that there has to be at least 2 lbs of mozzarella cheese on a pizza is totally nuts.

On a sidenote: you can get some pretty outstanding pizza in a lot of the smaller villages all across central Europe. Most of the times the pies even sell for less than one from Dominos or Pizza Hut. And they are bigger at that.
