I ate some deenz this past weekend on a toasted and buttered English muffin with a fried egg and some Louisiana hot sauce. It was pretty good, but I might try remoulade sauce next time.

Sardine is a catch-all term for little fish. I can get down with some South China Sea Chicken of the Sea, but Morocco/Spain/Portugal/Gibralter is the absolute top. Scandanavian waters will do in a pinch. Caribbean may as well be labeled a different fish, but those big ones in a soup can make for good fried rice.

No. It's incredibly delicious and has tons of healthy omega-3 oils, but it's not as versatile as the humble deen and being liver, you can't eat it every day without ingesting toxic levels of vitamin A. It's top tier canned food though.

Add to a bowl of cooked rice:
sardines
olive oil (if yours came packed in same, you can just dump that in)
garlic salt
any herbs you like
splash of hot sauce if you like
mix it all together
the heat from the rice warms the sardines, but you can microwave it if you like hot/warmer

Also, try putting them in a salad; plain lettuce will do if you don't have extra vegs. And again, if they were packed in OO, you can just dump it in, otherwise, use your favorite, oil-based, non-dairy dressing.

Normally I get the KO sardines in olive oil since my local warehouse store doesn't stock other brands aside from Season but they are the boneless skinless variety. Today however they had a 10 pack of the Season with skin and bones for $10. Never had this brand before and although the can is smaller than KO, the weight on the packaging says there is more in it.
Was buying 4 pack KO for a little over $7 so this seems too good to be true. Is the flavor garbage?

I thinly slized fennel, and put the fennel green to the side.
I got some rock hard leftover sourdough bread and made breadcrumbs with them, totally optional tho.
Then i sauted the fennel and some sliced garlic in the oil from the sardine can.
Salt and pepper to taste.
When the pasta is cooked almost complete add it to the pan with some pasta water, add some more butter and stir so the sauce emulsifies.

plate it and put the deenz on top.

for more flavorful sauce, but less nice presentation, shred one of the sardines and put it in the pan after frying up the fennel and garlic.

as with any other food, that is universaly and objectively good tasting, you just embrace it. when you feel the fish taste, you dont try to dismiss it, but instead let that flavour in, invite it, get to know it. the subtler it is the more time it will require. remember that the reason for not liking them is in your head. it might be some unconscious trauma of your childhood, like when you were given some stale trout fried in sunflower oil for example, and it developed this barrier in your head which straight up rejects anything fishy. And your job is to learn to overcome it, with the help of good and quality sardines

It's the same reason "farthing" is fun to say; it's so delightfully meager. Also, most of our first exposure to sardines as a concept was an undesirable tin of food in Tom and Jerry or some similar bit of olde-timey animation while we were skipping school; the fact that a quality tin of deenz *fucks* and fucks hard is the kind of epic subversion our brains love.

Also, for real; sardines/kippers packed in a quality oil or brine absolutely MOGS pretty much any other food, nutritionally speaking, and since they're feeder fish mercury is a non-issue.
