I legit chalk this up to marketing.
McDonalds has some really aggressive marketing, constantly showing ads everywhere etc.

Burger King, over here, has the better product but you almost never see them advertised. Its also a bit slower when it comes to adapting services.
For example I'm able to order McDonalds and they will deliver it to me. Burger King has no such service (yet)

Their burgers are better than McD, but that is not a high bar to clear. In the end the food is still soggy, sugar and sodium filled mush. Whenever I get BK once a year it's always disappointing and the burger always falls appart

It’s just because of the head start in advertising and expansion. Here in Australia, Hungry Jacks (which is BK) is far better for pricing and quality, but they’ve always been a step behind in market penetration. It’s sad but true, more locations = more customers.

I prefer BK and I have a theory why:
Theres over 100 employees who work at my local mcd's and they only average 15 hours a week each. Theres about 15 employees at the local BK and they all work 30-40 hours. IMHO the difference in quality can be attributed to that. If someones only at work for 2 shifts a week they dont care about the quality or complaints. Someone whose there 5 or 6 days a week will put in more effort to make a good product because they know they'll be the ones who have to deal with complaints later.

I avoided BK for years, but recently I've realized how much better it is. It's in the huge buns (and potato buns!), generous pickles, and actually fresh looking lettuce/tomato.

Compared to the fake-mayo 'soup' of shredded lettuce at mcd's, there's no going back.

A&W is also underrated recently (Canadian franchise, idk about US).
