Much better than current swedes. I want to try pic related or similar products but they're expensive for what it is and I've had bad luck with kalamata olives. Can't handle the salt sometimes, but since these are packed in oil it might be okay.

Many little tasteless plebs and tourists will not be able to handle the flavors. But it’s actually quite nice. I lightly fried the eggplants in some olive oil and they feta crumble is mixed with a little fresh mozzarella which you can see browned in the pic. There are also black and green olives in the tomato sauce with the sardines which, when baked, causes a really good reaction between the potatoes (which have been fried) and the tomato sauce. It’s very decadent tasting but also good for you.

i just want my tuna to taste fishy, desu. when i make tuna salad, tuna casserole, etc with chunk light or albacore i cant taste the fish, very sad. i guess chunk light is fine to have out of the can by itself, but albacore is just dry and not particularly good. yellowfin is good out of the can and good in tuna salad, etc, that being said, chicken of the sea brand yellowfin tuna has like a chemically lemon/citrus after taste to it which i dont enjoy.

They won't destroy your guts, but probably won't taste very good. Scallops are best when they are lightly seared, even better raw because you don't risk overcooking them. The ones in your pic will probably turn to mush when you bite into them and have an overly smoky flavor. Add to that they're packed in sunflower oil (the inferior oil) and fished in China of all places. Not an item I would recommend purchasing again. If you really want smoked shellfish, go with smoked oysters, but it's very difficult to find a high quality smoked oyster.

It's a smaller kind of tuna so it contains less mercury than bigger fish like albacore or yellowfin. I know the selenium in tuna helps to counteract the mercury anyway, but I just think the skipjack tastes better. It is a bit more dry than yellowfin, but not as dry as albacore. I love the taste of fish, but canned yellowtail is a bit too much for me, prefer it as sashimi. Skipjack goes great with Cholula for a quick snack, or as tuna salad / tuna melt. I also dislike tuna in oil, the oil just throws off the taste for me, especially yellowfin. I believe any canned tuna in water is the best option. Skipjack meat is very tender and easy to smash up, it does not like to stick together in large chunks like other tuna. Lastly, it is very lean, so you never get those weird fatty bites that can sometimes happen with other kinds of tuna.

more fishy than anchovies, but way less salty. they are smoked, so if youre not a fan of smoked fish youre out of luck.

if you have a high quality sardine (like matiz, nuri, etc) you can serve on toasted baguette with a little pepper and parsley and a squirt of lemon luice. if you have brisling sardines, like king oscar, you can add them to pasta sauce. a lesser quality sardine like chicken of the sea can be used to replace tuna in tuna salad. to me, a high quality deen just tastes like smoke and savory with a hint of fish.

remember, the thicker the can, the bigger the fish is. in a can of matiz deenz, you get like 3 or 4 big sardines. in a can of brisling, you get like 12-15 smaller fish.

anything with "smoke flavor" as a listed ingredient is a huge red flag for me though so stay away from like 1 dollar deenz.

The chicken of the sea ones were on clearance for like 25 cents each at my local grocery store. They suck ass straight but if you're gonna puree them for dip or pate anyway then they're good enough for that.

The titus deenz (I had not tried them until you mentioned) are absolutely wretched. I bought them when I was back in New York and never bothered to try them. Full of pin bones and the fish tastes like metal.

I never thought I would say this chicken of the sea is actually more decent. Blegh now I gotta wash my mouth out.

>> No.17642768

Also I just realized the cholesterol on a lot of these cans packed in EVOO assumes that you're going to drink the oil. If you're not drinking the oil and you're draining the fish you're never going to have problems.

Also who the fuck drinks the liquid canned fish are packed in, absolutely barbaric. Monsters. Demons.

Tried picrel- brand is like great value but for Australians. Tasted like nothing and the fish themselves were very chewy and not tender at all.
I’ve had deenz with even less of a fat content then these things and they were a million times better in the texture and flavour department. Not even worth the 89 cents i paid for them

Tools:
Pan
Baking Sheet

Firstly slice the eggplant into 1/4th inch slices, or to where each slice of eggplant is roughly the thickness of a finger. Place in a bowl and toss with salt. Press down on the eggplants in the bowl with a few paper towels or a clean kitchen towel to allow moisture to absorb. This takes 30 minutes or so and can be done in advance.

Fry the eggplant slices after the 30-60 minute water extraction in some oil over medium heat. You don't need to superfry them because we will bake them. About 4-5 minutes per eggplant, or to where they start to turn golden brown. Place them aside on a plate or back in the bowl you used. (if you do the bowl again wipe it down so they don't get extra salt)

Slice the peppers, cut the tomatoes, do the onion, grate the pecorino. All that crap. Firstly fry the garlic and then add the onion. When the onion begins to reduce, add the red pepper. When the red pepper begins to get soft, add the DEENZ, and OYSTERS to the pan. Lightly fry for around 2-3 minutes. Then, transfer the entire pan to your baking sheet. Add the chopped raisins and mix them throughout at this point. Breadcrumb the top after the raisins are mixed in.

In a seperate bowl, mix the white wine with the can of tomato paste and the red pepper flakes. Add a little oil to the pan, and heat the sauce in the pan slowly on a medium-low flame, then, after you can tell it's heated because the consistency is easier to work with, turn up the heat to high for 1 minute, stirring rapidly. Then, remove from the heat, continuing to stir for another minute.

Take your eggplants and layer them on top of the baking sheet, and pour the sauce over. Coat generously with pecorino. Bake /COVERED!/ in a 400F preheated oven for 45 minutes, then remove the covering and bake for an additional 30, reducing the heat to 375F. Enjoy!

It's a balance between Riga and King Oscar. Riga is like the best of the slavic deenz (Baltic) and King Oscar is old school Norwegian sprats. Though they both cross into each other's fishing territory it's usually about how they pick and pack their fish. King Oscar is usually flakey and light with soft bones and thus sold flavored in the can. Riga's are the most smokey sardine I've ever had and they're good on their own or in recipes.

I'll eat both straight but I will say King Oscar is my preferred snack in a can. So many flavors.

Seasons boneless and skinless are amazing and you should grab a few cases next time you go to Costco, they make great sandwiches and dip.
