There's one episode where he was just trying to get through the challenge and all of a sudden this absolute huge lard unit, wearing an extremely greasy tanktop with the US flag on it, jumps out of the crowd and starts screaming USA USA USA

So you were asking if they removed the meat from the crabs/mussels/clams, weight it, and then reinserted it back into the shells?
Yup, it’s crazy as hell. They even glue the crab legs back together so you have to crack them like normal for the challenge.

This show aired in my country and I saw one episode of it.
I just sat there in bafflement watching him cram down the fuckhuge meal into his throat. When hee finished, sitting there panting and drenched in sweat, the audience chanted "MAN VERSUS FOOD, MAN VERSUS FOOD" while clapping at this circus pig.
I was so thoroughly disgusted that I never watched a reality show again, and for that thankful.
