This says blonde roast but it tastes just like a dark roasted coffee.
Does blonde not mean light roast?
Where are the fruity notes?
I don't think I understand about light roast coffee yet

Not gonna really find a decent coffee at the supermarket. Try finding a local caffee that roasts their own coffee.

Is this actually true though?
People say things like this about produce and beer but I can't taste the difference between organic veg and conventional and Sierra Nevada tastes fine to me.
Is coffee somehow different?

To an extent, yes. I mean, I depends on if the local roster knows what their doing. Could actually taste like shit if they don't know how to roast. I can taste the difference between Starbucks and what the local place is turning out. Also depends on what kind of water you use to brew with. Coffee connoisseurs are idiots. Drink what tastes good to you.

Starbucks started out as house that specialized in dark roasts. It's why all of their shit is dark roasted and their Italian Roast is basically ash.

To their credit, dark roasts provide a consistent flavor to lattes and other drinks.

But you need to buy from a credible roaster to get real light roast. Even Happy Mug does a decent job.

Coffee oxidizes extremely quickly after it's been ground. After 24 hours, most of the chemicals that give it the "sweet" coffee flavor have oxidized. The oxidized forms of those chemicals are what provide the "bad" bitter coffee flavor

Depends on the supermarket, really. In metropolitan areas you can get lucky. Small bags of coffee are under 20 bucks a pop, just try your luck.

Yeah if you want any tasting notes

Grind your own coffee with a proper grinder
Use a moka pot/drip/Aeropress/French Press

Grinded coffee will remain tasty about 2-3 days after that it will become bland and tastes like dirt.

Buy your freshly roasted coffee beans from your local roaster. You will have a much better selection than Starbucks also.

Also you will likely save a bit of money if you're buying coffee drinks everyday.

I guess this is why I should read the whole thread before replying

>> No.17513015

Your first mistake was buying ground coffee and expecting any hint of quality. It's going to go stale, even inside the packaging, long before you can ever use it.
Your next mistake was expecting to get a proper light roast without either buying fresh roasted or just roasting your own beans. Especially from a brand like Starbucks, who are known for using burnt beans even in their own shops.

The best thing you can do, and I am being 100% genuine here, is just stop caring. Get a $20 coffee maker and find a brand of canned grounds you don't hate. The alternative is spending hundreds to turn coffee into a hobby, at which point your life is over.

Interesting take.
The reason I am looking into coffee more deeply these days is because I am trying to transition to black coffee instead of adding half and half.
Maybe I should have asked a different question altogether

>> No.17513318

>>17509404
if you have a nice grocery store with whole beans, get some of those and a grinder (can get a basic cheap blade grinder to start off with for like 20 or 30 bucks) and try that, you'll notice an immediate difference without having to invest in expensive equipment and find your local artisan coffee master

otherwise just try different brands each time like another poster said, you'll probably find something you like, starbucks coffee is just kinda shit which is why their main draw is syrupy sugar bombs that taste nothing like coffee anymore
