I was reading online that they mix vanilla with the shamrock syrup to flavor it, so I think I just got a bad shake. This McDonald’s is usually great and it was dinner rush, have no idea why everything was old, cold and stale. But anyway the mint flavor kind of tastes like artificial spearmint gum it’s weird. I expected more of like a good mint ice cream flavor. Definitely getting chocolate the next time I decide I want a milkshake.

There is no min flavor in a shamrock shake. McDonalds has never claimed that there is and you can check the ingredient list online. It's a vanilla shake with green food coloring, it always has been. Consumers have assumed that because of the color there must be another flavor, but it's all in their heads. That's why reviews are so mixed regarding the flavor, people expect mint but just taste vanilla so it's weird.

McDonald's has laboratory/kitchens full of food scientists who excel at developing distinct, memorable flavors and experiences. As the McRib is artificially scarce to drive traffic in the fall, the Shamrock Shake is designed to drive traffic in the spring. Consumers haven't tasted it in a year, but they swear it was a little bit different than a vanilla shake. It's not; it's just green.
