Maybe I'm a bleeding heart but I just don't want to see those cashier jobs disappear. Teenagers, immigrants, and little old ladies who didn't save for retirement need to be able to work somewhere. Plus I just don't want to do the work. I don't mind if it's one or two items but I don't want to ring up a full load of groceries myself. The stores are saving money on this shit, but my fucking grocery bill certainly isn't going down.

gave up shopping there a long time ago but I remember many of the products being smaller than in other stores. I remember taking a calculator and multiplying the weight of the product x2 and the price x2 until I reached the equivalent to the same product in other stores and often found that many products were either slightly cheaper, but negligibly so to the point where I asked myself what the point was, the same price, or even more expensive by some negligible amount, or by a couple dollars. I found that I could save more by going to some bulk foods warehouse/store, and I felt like my intelligence was insulted because at the end of the day I would just have to buy more small packages to get the same amount of food I intended to buy, and wasn't really saving money or spending more and that hurt a lot. The whole point of shopping at aldi is completely lost on me. I gave up over a year ago and never went back.

Never noticed this on the vast majority of things, but I could believe it for goods with nonstandard package (aka not butter, cans, jugs, wet meats, etc.). I can readily believe a box of their saltines, a bag of chips, etc. has less mass than what other stores provide, but I've never had both at the same time for comparison.
I'm not price sensitive though, I just live in a place so flyover that the ALDI the next town over is actually the best grocery store around. So I just wouldn't give it mind regardless unless it was big enough to notice during consumption.

One thing I have noticed is that they do significantly smaller sizes on processed meats, like smoked salmon, salami, etc. than what I see in other stores, though the quality is either at parity or better like their cheese selection.
