I like soy sauce on rice. I've been thinking about incorporating tofu into my diet because I like its texture after being fried and tossed in sauce. Tofu in miso soup is nice too but more of a garnish.
Actually I've tried Soylent a couple of times and even though it has way too much sugar I wouldn't call it a bad product. In fact during long road trips I've noticed it shows up a lot at rest stops, and as a quick option on the road it's hard to find a fault with it.
Fuck soy milk though, really low tier milk alternative.

>> No.17450014

edamame/mukimame as a snack, that's about it though. I don't really think about it I guess, but I mostly stick to soy-free shit nowadays just because of the meme burrowing deep into my brain. It's not like it's entirely memetic though, there are legitimate claims against the prevalence of soy in foods.
But yeah, Edamame is pretty much the only thing I still eat, in the soy family.
If you know of a cheaper snack to eat with no mess let me know, cause I can get fuckin hundreds of pods for a couple bucks.

There's a soft tofu dessert called tau foo fah (pic related). Its usually made fresh, the tofu is super soft and silken that it breaks as soon as you scoop it. The only process that occurs is drying and maybe pressing the hops into pellets. There is no point in the processing in which any solvents wash away phytoestrogens as that would also strip flavour compounds. Unless your pea sized brain thinks that drying does magically remove these phytoestrogens in which case the same would occur for soy beans as they are almost always dried to extent shelf life. There are phytoestrogens found in beer, you can cope and pretend that there isn't but the truth is phytoestrogens don't effect the human body as much as retards on chinese dog farming boards like to think.

>Does anyone here unironically like soy?
I do.
>What soy foods do you like, soy milk, tofu, tempeh or other soy-based foods?
I like soy sauce (naturally brewed, not the chemical shit you get with cheap sushi), tempeh, tofu (silken, extra firm, soft, marinated, fried, I like them all; not the biggest fan of smoked though) and edamame in that order.
I've tried soymilk and didn't like it, if you need a plant milk then oat is better in my opinion, especially for coffee, though none of them come close to real milk, which is why I went back to cow milk.
Never tried soybean oil and have no intention to do so in the future, I have all areas I want covered by other oils already.
I don't consume much soy through processed foods, simply because I try to avoid processed foods in general.
I think soy is a great ingredient, but using it only as a replacement (especially for meat) is a sad way to use it. It's just one ingredient among many to use (and flavoring tofu with real meat is actually amazing and often better than both ingredients individually).

>> No.17451718

Depends, why do you want to give it a try?
Think of tofu as a category rather than an ingredient, it's like asking "Recipe to try fish" or "to try meat" - the variance among different ones is rather big. The biggest hurdles I think most people have to try it are the texture and the grassy taste that some tofu tends to have, both can be reduced/changed with proper preparation (or overshadowed by other aspects of the dish).
You should remain open to different uses, from authentic mapo tofu, over westernized general tso's tofu, to red braised tofu or silken raw tofu (which is not for everyone and I don't like it much personally). There's a lot of variance.
You can check out https://youtu.be/8vWIenK4p60 for a basic overview.
A very basic and lazy way to eat it that I sometimes make when I have no energy for something more involved (other than red braising) is westernized pan fried tofu:
Use firm or extra firm tofu. Drain. You don't have to press it, but pat it dry a bit. Cube it, toss in a bowl with cornstarch (easier crust, starch helps sauce thicken later, harder to fuck up). Fry in oil until golden. If you want veggies with it, prepare those on the side, as well as a source of carbs if desired (potato, bread or rice). Chop up aromatics (ginger, garlic, whites of spring onion or normal onion, diced) and add to pan. Fry until fragrant.
Now add the sauce, one option is a black pepper sauce: Soysauce (light mostly, add some dark if you want more color), honey/sugar/maple sirup for sweetness (you can sub these for each other in each sauce), a bunch of freshly ground black pepper. Add stock (veggie stock or chicken stock). Mix and wait a bit for sauce to thicken to desired thickness.
Or low effort general tso's: Same as before, same aromatics too, but use veggie stock, ketchup, siracha, maple sirup.
Or a more korean sauce: Same aromatics, but for the sauce: Gochujang, peanut butter, soysauce, sugar, sesame oil, water/stock. Garnish with sesame seeds.

Honestly none of the soy products really appeal to me. I like to keep a vegetarian diet. I have been unable to find a use for tofu. To me it just kind of sucks and usually turns out gross no matter how you prepare it (unless you slather it in sauce which defeats the purpose).
Soy milk is probably preferable to real dairy health wise, but now there are so many non-soy alternatives to milk/protein shakes, there's really no reason to get soy specifically.
Soy beans suck ass too. And a lot of the fake meat bean products are full of complex carbs which are hard to digest and cause gas/ gross burps which make me want to puke.
