What is wrong with Subway? Why is it so unlike real food?

About once a year I forget that Subway is indigestible and try it again - it would be nice to have a quick and easy sandwich option and these things are everywhere in my country. But yesterday, as with every other time, I get the depressed feeling you get after a poor quality meal, I have diarrhea an hour later and the next day I have an inflammation response

Its the only decent place to go out to eat at where I live. I have a choice between subway, mccdonalds, burger king, taco bell, culvers, or a shitty family restaurant. I'll pick this every time, thank you.

They use really bad ingredients. Unlike some food where you can get away with low quality ingredients, it's almost impossible to do it with submarine sandwiches because there aren't any spices or seasonings to cover up the taste.

Chain subs like Jimmy John's only cost a few bucks more, but the difference in taste is huge.
