none of these are hacks.

a hack is something like this:
partially freeze meat to make it easier to cube.
dice onions as quick as you can to avoid burning eyes.
If you don't like kneading bread just mix all the ingredients together form a ball and wait 1 hour. the gluten will form by itself. shape and proof as the recipe dictates.
can't get pizza dough to stretch very far? stretch as much as you can without tearing then wait 5 to 10 minutes and stretch it again, repeat until dough is the size you want.
re-use pickle juice to pickle onions when the pickles run out.
use an ice cream disher to make perfect round even sized cookies.
wrap a potato in aluminum foil and place on the exhaust manifold after one hour of driving (baked potato) my dad did the many times (I never found it convenient).
don't know if an egg is still good? place it in water, if it lays down or even stands up it's good. if it floats to the top it's bad.

>> No.17437022

There was some food hack with making caramelized onions quicker.
First one that I know is to add some sugar so it reacts with the one in the onions and browns faster.
Other one is to add soda to fasten the chemical reaction but I'm not sure about that one since it gives the soda taste.

I've had the same thought but haven't gotten around to testing it. I know salt draws water out of carrots very well so in theory it should work with onions. Dice an onion, throw it in a bowl, toss it around with a decent amount of salt then throw it in a standalone strainer on a pan overnight then report back with results if you're willing. If not then I'll get around to it someday.

You need to add more salt when adding the onions, as the water in the onions mixes with the brine and waters it down, potentially bringing it under the safe salinity threshold.

>dice onions as quick as you can to avoid burning eyes.

Dicing the onions quicker won't do anything since no matter how quickly you cut you're still cutting the same amount and thus releasing the same volume of enzymes into the air. If you want to avoid burning eyes, make sure your knife is sharp; a sharper blade does less damage to the cells, and thus releases fewer enzymes. Chilling the onions prior to cutting can also help, as can slicing the onions in half and soaking them in water (although soaking can also suck out the flavor).

However, the #1 all-time best method of avoiding the burning eyes? Just fucking cut the onions and endure that shit, you little bitch. Eventually your body builds up a tolerance to the enzymes and they'll never bother you again.
