I actually love using my rice cooker (or whatever you call this)

not just because it cooks rice perfectly

but I use it to heat water, boil hot dogs, steam some brocolli and carrots while boiling the water for my ramen soup

its a great thing if you dont want to use a stove

Grater wouldn't achieve the same result, takes more time, requires more effort, and wastes more garlic.
The cool thing about the garlic press is that it enables you to add pressed garlic to anything absolutely effortlessly.
>should I add 2 garlic cloves to my mayo
>wouldn't this sauce benefit from 5 garlic cloves
>10 garlic cloves and this salad is perfect
I've tried purchasing pre-made garlic paste once and it's utter shit in comparison to freshly pressed garlic.

Yes. You use it like a normal cutting board but then you can use the handle to turn it into a funnel so you can easily drop stuff into a pot/pan

But a grater is harder to clean than a garlic press?
Do you let your press sit in the sink for a night or something, because that's the only way I imagine it can be hard to clean?

Why the hell anyone would use a garlic press is beyond me. Garlic should only be thrown in at the very end, so a microplane is best. Which is very easy to clean. Enjoy your garlic paste that only takes a couple seconds.

Never heard of anyone using it for onions. Egg slicers work very well for mushrooms though.
Also i'm craving pic related now.

You don't really get puree from that though.
You'll get a thin film-like thing that you still have to deal with before it can be incorporated into anything.
Also, like 500% time and effort, compared to just using the press.

sliding chopped veggies off my cutting board with the knife is one of my favourite parts of cooking so i would literally never use this

>> No.17413343

As I said before, you absolutely can achieve objectively better results with a knife.
However, it takes far longer, involves more effort, and relies on salt.
To get "better" results you'd first mince the garlic and then press it with salt, like in this video https://youtu.be/eOyjFc0Utw8
If you just smash garlic whole with a knife - you'll still have to do quite a bit of work to get it there.
Meanwhile, a garlic press will get you 90% of the result with 10% of the effort. Bonus points for not needing salt.

And I'll never understand the "it's hard to clean" meme. After you are done pressing whatever amount of garlic you had, you scrap the press with a knife once on the outside, once on the inside, rinse it, and it's perfectly clean.
Takes at most ten seconds. What's so hard about that?
