To each their own. For me, brandy is right up there with bourbon and scotch.

It's just because it's unfashionable. If old Europeans and rappers didn't buy it it would be a bargain.

kinda related but what's a good cooking cognac that won't break the bank?

What's your budget? For an actually good budget cognac, buy Martell Blue Swift, they sell it at Costco as well as the usual places, Not as good as Martell cordon bleu but very good for the price. I hate remy martin because it has an extremely strong apricot flavor and tastes very dry; I hate D'usse XO because it's not smooth at all and is very sharp. I don't have recommendations but look into armagnac because they're the bastard child of brandy, you can get a lot more for a lot less.

Got any recs for cooking tho? Never tried drinking since I'm not a big liquor drinker outside of a handful of my preferences but I might keep those in mind. I just got a couple of special french dishes I wanna try out and thought I'd try to keep it to the recipe instead of substituting brandy but like I said I don't drink it so I don't know what is good.

No, I'd just use something cheap. Courvoisier, Grads domaines, and Decourtet should all be $27 to 30ish a bottle at Total Wine & more.

Yeah brandy is awful. It is surprisingly bad in a way that makes you wonder why it still exists.

>> No.17384837

man i feel like an asshole, Friday is drinking night, car's frozen and don't feel like spending 20 mins getting it ready cause by tomorrow it will be thawed out by the son.
Got drizzly, 39 min to deliver, got a bottle cognac on sale, out of stock, had to get a regular one,
"okay, this better be good"
fucking worst 60 bucks iv'e spent in awhile, didn't even do 1/4 of the bottle and i gotta make it last to justify my purchase.

Drinking this right now. It's okay, not worth it compared to Courvoisier VSOP or even regular Remy VSOP.

Brandy is great. Get yourself a nice cognac, armagnac, rakia, calvados, or kirsch. Fantastic. German/Austrian pear eau de vie is some of nicest shit.

It's really too bad that people associate "brandy" with bottom-of-the-barrel cheapo gangbanger shit.

What's the deal the Blue Swift? It says "Cognac beverage" on the bottle, is it actual Cognac, or a cognac beverage.

>> No.17389545

>>17387995
Blue Swift is finished in bourbon barrels, which means it can't legally be called cognac anymore.
