what do you usually wear when going out to eat? when is the last time you dressed up? was it worth it?

>> No.17379774

I want to get dressed up and find a nice place with the wife. Last time we tried was about six months ago and went to a place that had hundred dollar entrées but still saw a bunch of people wearing casual dress. It was pretty annoying

>hundred dollar entrées
I hope it was worth all those shiny pennies
>Last time we tried
what did you wear?
>people wearing casual dress.
t-shirts or...?
>It was pretty annoying
I'm sorry to hear that

Just a shirt/tie/sport coat combo while the wifey wore a nice dress. The food was okay but we were hoping to feel fancy so we tried to find a place to feel extravagant. Yeah t-shirts and shorts even. One or two other guys had a tie but it was not the norm. It is okay, I want to try again somewhere else soon. It gets easier as the kids get older to find time for fun

Button up sleeveless with shorts and hiking boots. I have no problem wearing a monkey suit but I havn't been to a place fancy enough to warrant it in years.
Actually now that I think about it the nicest place i've been to was in like '16 in New Orleans that I somehow got into despite wearing a wifebeater and ragged jeans. Everyone else including guests where wearing full suit, no clue why the frontman let me in. Worth it though, I was hungry and it was late.

I refuse to dress up for eating out, even business meetings. My comfort > looking nice and I do not ever feel comfortable in a 3 piece suit.
Jeans/jean shorts and a casual button up is the most I will do.
Unless it's a wedding, funeral, or going to church, dressing up is never worth it. If a "fancy" restaurant really has something you want, just offer to have something catered or picked up.
In all honesty, most of those dishes are just elaborately prepared than anything that would taste robust. Allows them to charge more that's for sure.

Reading these responses reminds me how much Americans lack any form of style and fashion sense. Honestly, while I understand people here in the civilised world stating they recognise Americans by their loudness, fatness and lack of etiquette, I spot them first by their sheer lack of dressing sense. Those shoes, those "shorts", fuck me it's a travesty. The blind consumerism that the whole mistake of a country is based on has seeped so deeply in those imbeciles it has impaired any capability for aesthetic sensibility. Revolting.

If you want to "feel fancy" and are willing to spend hundreds doing it then why not hire a private chef for a night and have them make you a nice three course meal in the comfort of your own home. You can even wear whatever you wish, be it something really nice, or something casual, and also have the table candlelit if that's your desire.

you could go to church for FREE instead of paying $100 for a plate of food if you want to feel extravagant simply by being around others in their "Sunday best"

>> No.17380505

>>17380338
interesting idea. how much would they charge? under $250? also, do they do clean up and all the dishes after? that's a weird idea. I'd want them to leave ASAP so I could fuck my wife as soon as we're done eating.

You're not going to find a place in America where everyone is dressed fancy. Jeans and shirt is always our minimum standard of dress.

Dressing up is obsolete. It used to be done when everyone was poor and only had 1 or 2 "good" outfits that they only broke out on special occasions. Nobility could wear "good" outfits every day and it made them stand out among the peasants. Now everyone can afford decent clothes so it's pointless. You're not impressing anyone and I'm in the same restaurant as you in my khakis and polo (with a hotter girl).

Why not both? I was just thinking the other day that canteens are horribly underrated and there's something nice about simple food under heat lamps, collected on a plastic tray and eaten around other people. If someone is dining on their own you can go and sit across from them and have a chat.

The problem would be high rents and high minimum wages. Like London's cereal cafe, a communal canteen would have to charge high prices and I don't know if anyone would pay them for things like steamed puddings and custard.

Not unless it's a company function and even then sometimes not. Actually managed to get a business deal with another company by not wearing anything formal once. Otherwise I just wear what I want since it fits in anywhere and I wanna be comfy, and also it pisses off people like >>17379774
