How the hell did people figure out eating this? Did someone just took a random bird nest and eat it?

I had the same question about bamboo shoots. Were they so hungry that they just thought "let's eat some bamboo"?

Basically all tough plants are edible when young. Most bamboo shoots you can buy are very young ones.
Sane way we eat ferns when they are stille little fiddleheads.
If you let asparagus continue to grow it would be too tough and woody to eat too.

Checked and truth pilled. Bamboo is pretty sweet on the inside so I imagine people using it to build things, or even cutting it down, would take a taste. It is pretty good

It's not a random bird nest. It's a special type of bird's nest that makes it out of saliva or something, that dissolves when boiled and adds no flavor at all. Somebody probably wondered what would happen if you boiled those weird looking nests.

>> No.17380290

They're insanely expensive. If you thought truffles or caviar were expensive, that shit is bonkers.
And, unlike the former two, they have no flavor whatsoever, it's literally hardened bird spit.
