I used to work these jobs and no I didn't. If my boss didn't care and we didn't get any pushback from ownership it doesn't matter. The customer calls, tell them their order is still being made. They get pissed, just be polite and assure them you're working on it. This is basic customer service. We know people are retarded, there's no reason to get worked up about it.
I was working for a caterer one summer with my girlfriend and we had a lady call first thing in the morning asking for lunch for 75. The owner looks at his stock and says, we can throw something together but we have two other events, I can't guarantee yours will be on time. She agrees to that and we bust our asses adding that order to our work. We ship out the other two then the owner sends me and my girlfriend to this place.
We don't even make it out of the van before the lady comes up and starts on us. You're 45 minutes late! We've been sitting in the room waiting this whole time! I tell her, ma'am I'm sorry but I believe Mr. (owner) told you we couldn't guarantee it would be on time. She is haranguing us the whole time we were setting up. Thankfully it was self-serve banquet trays and sternos so we were able to leave it.
We're driving back and my girlfriend is crying thinking we're going to get fired. We arrive at the kitchen, owner shows up a little later from making his rounds at the events. He said the lady jumped up his ass about it and he told her she was lucky to get the food she got with his stock, don't fuck with his employees, and if she was unhappy she was free to call his lawyer. I said, yeah but aren't you mad she did that? He said no, I'm too busy running a business to worry about idiots. Then we started prepping for the next day.
I'd like to say I went home and fucked my girlfriend but she was a preacher's daughter and not the good kind.
