tl;dr you want to trap the active ingredients somehow so they don't boil off.
I knew a guy once that would just butter a piece of toast, put ground bud on that, the put butter over it, and throw dat bitch in a toaster oven.
So as long as the stuff you want is trapped inside the brownie, it should be fine pretty much however you do it.
Granted, this really isn't my field of expertise, so I might be missing something here about the process, but I think it's just a matter of keeping the stuff contained and activating it with heat.

Take every bit of the plant (except the buds which should be curing properly, another thread), stalks stems leaves into a big pot
A lb or two of salted butter, in
Water to near top of pot
Optional: add a few cinnamon sticks, makes the house smell nice
Bring to boil, reduce to low simmer, 24 hours or until it has a black color and sheen you'll know it when you see it - don't rush
Stir occasionally, add water if level gets too low
Pour through strainer into container
Rinse throughly the butter on the strainer stuff with more water that also goes into container
Container goes into the fridge
Wait a day, butter will have separated and hardened on top of the water into a green disk on top of black water
Remove it carefully, probably have to go around the edges with a knife
Get rid of the black water
There will be scum on the underside of your green butter disk, carefully remove that too with knife.
Put butter disk in pot, melt on low heat, pour liquid into small measured sealable containers and freeze
Make whatever that requires butter
I make Betty crocker instant chocolate chip cookies, the butter to mix ratio is high, a bag that makes 12 is 99 cents, and one or two will put you on your keester for half a day.
Suggestion is look at the directions before you buy a brownie mix and get the best butter to non butter ratio

Also, do all the work at once. Butter freezes and is good for years, brownies and cookies freeze just fine too

Melt weed and butter without cooking it, preferbly by putting the butter pan in a boiling pot of water.
Mix weed butter with the flour and other ingredients, make them as chocolate flavoured as possible.
Throw it in the trash and pop 120mg of mdma instead.

I usually finely mill decarboxylated weed and add it to melted butter in a pan on the stove. I dissolve brown sugar into that butter and keep it warm and moving. I dissolve cocoa powder into that, usually add a can of condensed milk, add crushed nuts, dark chocolate, vanilla, tonka bean, whatever etc. I then line a tray with greaseproof paper, dust the paper with cocoa powder, spread it out, dust with more cocoa powder, sea salt maybe. Let it set up in the fridge, cut into portions.

I used to mix weed oil/butter with hot chocolate with a fuckload of bitter cocoa which I found his the dogshit taste the best and just drink the whole thing in one go. All weed edibles taste like absolute dogshit anyway so you might as well get it over with quickly and enjoy the rest of your evening. It's like swallowing a bitter happy pill.

They sell weed butter infuser gadgets for around $200 that makes the whole process a lot easier with minimal smell. I almost bought one but I don't need any more pot in my daily life.
