How the fuck has a better version of the can opener existed since the 1980s and nobody fucking told me about it until some youtube video 40 years later?

I own one of these, always have since I was a kid for manual can opening. When I've went to buy a canopener, I've only seen these and electronic ones.
I legitimately had zero clue that a better version of the can opener existed, that targeted the seams of the can rather than cutting a hole into the lid. Shit seems better in every way to pic related.

Electric can openers have existed for over a decade. This is less "how come nobody told me!?" and more "how come I'm so retarded!?"

>> No.17287845

>>17287835
Yes actually, and I was so shocked by this I showed my mom the same video and watched it with her, who was also surprised about this can opener. Not having seen it before, but an electronic one that targeted the seams like this one.
>>17287839
>Electric can opener
that's a different meme with a different utility. Only weak limpwrists use an electric can opener. Imagine having to use up batteries or having an overly large device and cable taking up your countertop space. It's just less space effective, gimmicky, and what happens when your motor breaks. Buy another one?

He is not well known for his fashion style. Which is surprising to me because he actually has quite the nice set design for his type of broadcast/show. The shelf behind him there actually has 2 TVs behind it broadcasting individual images/etc into each cubby with different themed items of stuff he went over or technology that has personal attachment to him.
It's a really well designed set imho though. You think he'd be able to match clothes better too.

Oh, ok. Yeah, I hate those. I use the cutout lid top to squeeze the tuna juice out of the can. On some stuff I like to leave a hinge flap with an incomplete cut. Can't do that with the retarded side-cutters. Huge functionality downgrade. You have to dump everything into a bowl or strainer.

This is wrong and stupid. Instead of a disc with sharp edges you have a much more dangerous cylinder with sharp edges. People just like to think they're clever when they rediscover that you can open cans that way. People intentionally abandoned it ages before you were born because it's inferior.

Either side works to peel a banana.
Most people peel a banana with the side that has the pointy stem
but other people peel it like monkeys do it at the banana and use the stem as a handle.
Both sides work just fine and is up to personal preference

I have this exact can opener, I took it from my grandma's house when she died years ago. She had it at least as long as I remember. Unfortunately the cutting disk is pretty cruddy but it still opens cans better than any other opener I've owned. All the new plastic ones in that style stop working after a few months. I never thought I'd get to share my autistic love for these can openers but here we are.
Looking online it looks like they still make these exact can openers, I wonder if they hold up

I have one of these, used to belong to my grandma and is still going strong at around 15/20yo.

Leaves a dull edge, lets you put the cut lid back on the can if you don't use all the contents at once and, the most useful part, you can use a spatula to scrape everything in the can without damaging the spatula.
