this is the start of my celebration of the “birthday of our first born,” kitty.

i’ve never been much of a cook, so i had no idea what to get him. i did a little bit of research and found that a bag of organic brown rice would be perfect for him, so i called up the folks at ricegrowers. i didn’t realize that it was their birthday too, but they were very nice and sent me a cake and a lovely card.

the cake was a “bacon cake” with maple frosting, and it was very tasty. the rice is a brown japonica variety, which is a short-grained, sticky rice. i actually prefer it to white japonica, and it has a really nice nutty flavor. i think it will work well with the pie, and i’m going to use it in a couple of other things as well.

i had already bought the pie, so i made a roast turkey breast with a honey and ginger rub. it was super tasty, and it was perfect for dinner on his birthday. i made the gravy from the turkey drippings, and it was so tasty, i couldn
