Do Americans really buy grilled cheese from fast food places? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a grilled cheese sandwich at any restaurant or fast food joint other than a mini golf place I went to once.

Patty melts are good with thousand island dressing.
Typically grilled cheese is a kids menu item, unless it's some kind of novelty grilled cheese with fancy toppings. Some places will make you one cheap because the ingredients are around.
