it really do, there's not enough in it to affect taste really. any fat can work (except the time i used butter and it tasted too much like butter lel)

half the time I use oils to make it cause only time I have shortening is after I've made bacon.
And only time I use that mediocre tier ingredient is when I substitute it for pancetta.

It doesn't taste the same
I've made it with lard, vegetable shortening and 50:50 lard and vegetable shortening and they all taste different, I think 50:50 lard has the best texture and ok flavour while 100% lard has the best flavour
I may be the one with the problem though, I buy commercially packaged lard from the supermarket and it has a strong porky flavour that transfers into the tortillas, I've heard people say that lard doesn't have a flavour so maybe the lard I buy is not really lard and labelled as something else internationally
Also lard tastes good

the thing about tortillas is that they smell like private parts, that is why they are so popular and unconciously people seek them
