Things I had laying around: one yukon gold potato, a few frozen cod fillets, green onions, frozen corn, and a few cups of frozen ginger chicken stock. Solution: fish stew, pic related.

You think anchovy paste would be a good addition for a savoury salty flavor?

Potato in. I simmered for 10 minutes, then tasted the broth. I ended up adding 1 tbs Thai fish sauce for salt/tang and a bit more chive. Get the flavor of the broth ready to eat before you put the fish in.

No white wine on hand but this snappy light red is often made into rose, so it was pressed into service

Nestle the rock hard frozen cod fillet in and cover. After 6 minutes, break it up into large bites, then give it another 4 or 5.

I am not qualified to know how the builder of this was able to male such chicken into this ovalish shape. It does look a bit amusing yes but yes it is yummy though and taste good

I made pasta e fagioli.

turned out okay, I didn't have tomato paste, and used tomato sauce instead and it lacks tomato flavor, and the bacon I used was not super smokey.

A trick someone taught me was if you really need tomato paste but don’t have it, cut any type of tomatoes or tomato sauce with ketchup, then add disguises to it while you reduce and thicken it (a touch of soy, sriracha, a few tbs of extremely fine diced shallot or red pepper, sun dried tomatoes, etc. And when you use it, a splash of extra oil and really fry it uncomfortably long. It really does work.

Second idea is keep smoked paprika on hand for exactly these occasions, probably a tsp might have got you where you wanted to be, good luck anon.
