Depends what you mean by like an animal. Any individual animal is going to be specialized to its niche but they all broadly use the same hardware (unless you're an ant or something) and are susceptible to a lot of the same conditioning, the human brain is only exceptional in its ability for higher order thinking. That being said most studies that use animals to approximate human psychology are dubiously applicable to the real world, but, Pavlovian conditioning has been shown to work on humans.
