Not smoking the pipes much this time of year. Don't have a place to smoke and too busy with the holidays. Next house will have a smoking room or at least a screened porch. The way things are going I'll be rich selling my pipe tobacco cellar on my deathbed or trading it for food and bullets. It's already somewhat aged and is up 100+% in value and getting better. Still have a few unopened tins of syrian latakia and a buttload of virginias.

I miss the afghani opium more. Being in Afghanistan during the early days of the war was based. I've never spent so much time high. Plus if you got bored you could set the locals goats on fire and report that insurgents strapped bombs to the goats. I remember one time when we caught this kid fucking a goat and a staff sergeant shot him in the head. The goat took off running and the kid fell back without half his head busting a nut into the sky. i would encourage you to skip the supermarket stuff. its just a better experience. decent cigarillos cost more than drugstore junk but they are sill pretty cheap enough that if you are smoking one a week your never going to notice.

and this is a personal preference but i find acid cigars revolting. chemical tasting.
Aurturo Fuente, Macenduo, Romeo y julieta, cohiba, punch, and more make tinned cigarillos that provide something closer to a cigar experience. this mini cigars have actual cigar construction. wrapper leaf, real binder, and typically a mixed short filler. while short filler is not idea in cigars, in these little guys its a pretty small portion of the total mass of the cigar so its not as big of a problem is it might be in a full stick.
by contrast the drug store type cigarillos are not really cigars as i understand them. more like giant cigarettes. paper wraps full of shredded low quality tobacco. i am not talking shit. i know some people like them, my FiL included. so you do you. i just find them sour tasting and often overpowered with additive flavors.

i normally smoke cigars but during the winter having a shorter smoke is sometimes nice due to the cold. I currently have a drawer of LaFe Babys i am smoking through. they are nice, if simple with good strength and consistent flavor. typical burn time is around 18 minutes.

with full sized cigar for scale

We mainly need vendors, basic types of tobacco, how to use them.
Cigarettes and Chew are easy, maybe a basic tutorial for how to chew for simple folk. Say the differences in the colors for each brand of cigs (since those who didn't grow up with the original names might get confused what the difference is between gold, red, black, silver, ect)
Cigars will need a recommended cutter and recommended lighters and a lighting/smoking tutorial. On top of basic starter brands and vendors, as well as styles and storage.
Pipes need recommended lighters as well, since they require a different flame from cigars, as well as a tutorial on the false light technique and packing methods. Also the many different types of pipe tobacco (Virginia, English, Kentucky, Perique, Latakia, ect.) on top of aromatics. You need basic pipe set up and maintenance, cleaning methods, and of course vendors. Should probably just blanket recommend the Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman as a first pipe, then encourage expansion from there if they actually like pipe smoking. Give a warning that any decent briar is going to cost more than $80 and not to jump into them until after they have smoked a cob for awhile and want to move up.
Hookah should include vendors and set up, and cleaning tips. Explain what shisha is, explain how to light the charcoal for it, and explain that bigger ones = cooler air while smaller ones are cheaper and easier to set up.
I never done snuff but there's probably some stuff to explain, like how to use it.

pastebins need to be retard proof, got to assume the person reading it has no concept on how any of this works.

I wonder if the industry will become mostly pipe, cigars, snuff, and chew in the coming years. Kids get addicted to vape and it's increasingly more expensive and difficult to smoke cigarettes nearly anywhere.
The main drive for future smokers will probably be relaxation and celebration rather than to get their fix. I already see in my community only the older (35+) tobacco users smoke cigs, while the younger smoke cigars or use snuff or chew.

You know full well reddit cringelords like yourself take over gatekept hobbies all the time.
Specialty smoking is a hobby, if you're not just lighting up some cigs you got from the gas station, you are purposefully doing something niche. If we let reddit turds like you dominate how it's done, it will just become another soy "I can buy my way to being masculine" type of thing, which it kinda already is with some people, and was actually marketed that way to kids decades ago. We have to teach the new guys it's just about enjoyment and how they can get the best enjoyment out of it, so we can keep the quality side of things alive.
I don't want to see good products die out because people just want the mass market low level entry stuff. We're a declining demographic, and I'd rather it not all become some divorced parent twig armed guys being people's introduction. It's bad enough as it is.

This matches my experience, except when I was working in a restaurant. Everyone there smoked roll ups.

What drinks do you pipesmokers enjoy while smoking a bowl?

>> No.17233376

>>17233268
I drink tea with a pipe mostly, mainly because I smoke while working though.
water is always good too.
I kinda associate cigars or cigarettes with whiskey more, I guess if I still drank alcohol every day I might drink rum with a cigar to feel like an old sailor or something.
Pipes go well with fishing, so does beer, so maybe some pilsner

>> No.17233395

>>17233268
Beer, tea or coffee. I like to smoke when I drink, otherwise I'll have a cup of coffee which goes well with tobacco. I drink tea a lot of the time anyway so if I fancy one I'll typically have a cup of tea ready anyway. Though I have to say I prefer smoking cigars when I'm drinking. I only really drink once a week so having a cigar with some beer and a cocktail is enjoyable, while a pipe I'll smoke a few times over the week, in the car, etc.

I think the problem with pipes and drinking is they tend to build up moisture in the stem so drinking with a pipe in your mouth feels weird af to me

You learned about pipe tobacco from smoking it. If you were a new cigar smoker, what would your pipe experience lead you towards? Just guessing, I'd say a pipe smoker likely enjoys regular tobacco over flavored. You could probably suggest he stay away from acids, CAO moontrance, and junk tatianas. Tell him if he does happen to pick one of those up to store it away from his other cigars to avoid the aroma sticking in non flavored. Much as pipe smokers would have a regular and aromatic pipe.

>> No.17233483

>>17233456
Honestly I know so little about cigars some of what you said flew over my head, I probably only smoked less than 10 cigars in my life and most of that was a decade ago when I was trying to find something better than cigarettes.
A new pipe smoker I'd probably recommend getting one of those 3 cobs sets from missouri meerschuam and rotate them, and get some cheap bulk sutliff aromatics and a tin of nightcap and see which direction he wants to go from there.

And the point of having multiple pipes is to avoid ghosting the flavor of a strong aromatic into your other smokes. If you leave flavored cigars in your regular humidor, it will stick in the wood and taint your other sticks.

If you're interested in Cigars, start mild. If you have something too strong and without a sugary drink (Nicotine replaces sugars), you may throw up. Take it slow and relax.

Macanudos are a nice mild cigar. The lighter the wrapper, the milder the cigar, since most of the flavour is the wrapper.

Also fuck /pol/. Enjoy your cigar

>> No.17236443

matches.
The most based way is to grab a piece of wood from a fire and light it that way, like injuns and old clay-pipe tavern smokers did before matches were invented.
In all seriousness, anything butane with a soft flame works, even bic works fine if you can avoid burning your thumb. Something angled is better if you want a pocket lighter that isn't bic. You can use those long nozzled grill lighters if you want. If I'm being lazy I use a bic myself, but ideally I prefer matches over a lighter.
Just make sure the lighter is soft blame and butane, and if you use matches they aren't cardboard matches.
I think bic makes some easy reach candle lighters that probably would be ideal for lighting a pipe, but I never tried one
