Well, I wanted to see what all the hype/hate was about, and I finally got around to trying sardines.

Bought both a mustard-sauce one, and a olive oil one.

Meh...? I tastes like a very low quality canned tuna. Kinda fishy. Has an okay texture.

Put it on a peice of bread. Don't have any crackers lying around.

Is this it? Am I doing something wrong, deenzbros?

>> No.17171175

I won't be trying the olive oil one tonight. Dunno if I'll even finish this one. It's just not pleasant or inviting, to me, personally.

It's a shill, anon. It's like the fruitcake threads that have been on for the past month, it's to make you buy shit and you fell for it like a fucking idiot.

Maybe a bit.
Didn't know what to expect. Never had them before. I know I've seen my share of hot debated threads on here plenty of times.

I've tried them. I give 'em a ... 4/10, and now I know. Not too bad for $1.35ish

But the nutrients density though.
I've been considering going pescatarian again just to have a high calorie-protien meal with some deenz.

I'll give you that one. If I was camping or doing some weird cross country shit, and I had to carry all equipment and provisions on my back, I wouldn't mind having a few cans of sardines with me.

Just in case I suck at fishing.

I had two cans of mustard KO sardines and soup for lunch . Honestly I prefer the larger species of sardines like Bela and Nuri much more .

>> No.17171267

it's more of an easy meal/snack item if you eat them straight out of the can, nothing fancy but flavorful and comforting

go get some iwashi sushi in season or go to venice if you want great sardines

I’ve never had the mustard King Oscars so I can’t comment there. I strongly dislike the tomato sauce variety. The olive oil is good, the jalapeño is very good, and the Mediterranean is excellent. I eat a tin of ‘Car ‘Neans almost daily, straight out of the tin. Even my 1 and 4 year olds like a few bites.

>>17171194
Wrong.

>>17171216
Wise. The health benefits are huge as long as you don’t drink the oil every time.
>but muh mercury
No. They’re too far down the food chain for this to matter. I forget the exact numbers but I think a daily tin of deenz is still less mercury than a weekly tin of tuna.

>> No.17171398

these are really only for lite lunches, post drinking dinners, hangover food. definitely best with saltines or ritz(wheat thins works best for soaking up the rest of the juice in the can), plenty to drink and an orange. if you want a mealy dish with them just cook white rice and season it with the deenz and pickled vegetables.

>> No.17171447

Bought some tiny tots at the grocery store earlier.
They're kind of a super food, very healthy and will keep you going for a long time. You can also throw them in some bread easily.

Try the fresh frozen sardines. Half price and 5x the size fish. Today I baked 10 sardines on parchment paper with ghee at 200F for 4 hours. Ate everything, head, guts, bones, scales, eyeballs. After 4 hours, it's all good. This is real fish, not mushy cardboard canned fish. I still have a stack of canned deenz and will only eat them when I'm lazy and want convenience.

The hype is real IMO but don't mistake deenz for a meal! They are the perfect midnight or midday snack however. I like to eat the little ones in crackers with some hot sauce. High protein, low (bad) fat, lots of Omega fatty acids and even when eaten with crackers it's still pretty low in carbs compared to other snack foods.

Mustard is a gross choice. Sardines aren't themselves flavorful, they're vaguely fishy and a little bland, but they soak up flavors great and have an inoffensive texture.
Oil is the goto choice because it continues the unassuming flavor, so you can just add some salt or a bit of hot sauce and get a nutritious can of protein.

Yes, big sardine and big pannetone are plotting to make people buy more of these two specific products that sell shit loads per year. Big lemon introduced lemon pigs to make you buy more lemons.

I was fed sardines on toast from a very young age so it has a very nostalgic feeling for me. Never tried the mustard ones though. make sure you get them with bones and skin, their spinal cords are so fun to eat. I love these little guys

All those newfangled faggoty sauces are are an abomination. Oil-canned is the only real option. Oil will age the sardines. There's a whole market for vintage sardines due to that fact.

Soybean oil is very cheap, and fish are basically free, so these guys are shoving 5 cents worth of crap in a can -- providing only 100-200 calories -- and selling it to you for $2-$5. It's obviously a terrible deal and their business model relies entirely on memes and propaganda to control public opinion.
