17119089 No.17119089 [Reply] [Original]

I love cooking rice but I don't ever have much to add to it besides some chicken or soy sauce. Any recommendations for some simple adds? I'm thinking of some simple korean-style things. Went to some KBBQ place that had some lightly sauced cucumber cuts as a side dish that was delicious

Bacon is also not a bad addition.

I tend to boil rice, chuck in a tin of mackrel in spicy tomato sauce and add some grated cheese to the mix. Delish

Heat the garlic and chili in a frying pan with only the oil from the oil sardines.
Add the sardines and sprinkle with a little soy sauce.
Place the sardines on top of the rice, garnish with sliced onions and add a little lemon at the end.

why is japanese cuisine so hilariously bad?
the main staple dish of nipponland is sushi which is literally just fish on rice
their curry is just watered soup
ramen is just inferior version of authentic Chinese noodles
even instant noodles is taiwanese (Chinese) and not from japan

why could the nips not make a satisfactory cuisine?

>keep on high heat until water cooks off until just under rice level
>lower heat to lowest, put on lid and keep cooking for like 3-5 min
>remove from heat and let it rest to steam through in residual heat
As long as you give the rice enough time to steam through this is an idiotproof method. I usually prep my rice before I cook the rest of my meal so it has like 30 mins to fluff up nicely.

Fucking genius you eat 3 pickles and then you're still stuck with plain rice.
Might as well put 3 slices of whatever on top and call it a big change.

Anyway thing you can do: fry garlic in oil and add the oil and fried garlic to the rice, add chili flakes and some cumin.
Other thing use animal fat while you cook the rice such as the garlic oil or even fat you bake your meat in such as chicken. You dont need much but it adds some flavor.
