Have you ever visited a restaurant that was featured in an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, or tried a recipe you learned from the show? What was your experience like?

Been to a couple around Los Angeles.
Oinkster- Pastrami sandwich was unique and tasty. Everything else I've had from there was disappointing. Also way too expensive.
Little Jewel of New Orleans- Probably the best po boy in the city. Super expensive, giant portions, overall worth it.

i did, it was pretty good, the problem was it was way overfilled after appearing on the show. i went a few years later after i got back from uni and the place definitely went downhill but was still riding on the hype from their 6 minutes on that episode.

thankfully better greek places have popped up since then

Yes actually and yes it was delicious

I went to Four Kegs Sports Pub in Vegas for the Stromboli featured in an episode. It was a quiet day. Afternoon, restaurant was maybe half full. The Stromboli was awesome. I’m definitely going back if I go to Vegas again

I've been to the Coffee Cup in Boulder City (outside of Las Vegas) multiple times, and it's consistently the best diner food out there. I actually drove out there with my dad last Friday, grabbed a pork chili verde omelette, and it was a very nice day. T-shirt weather.

A week later it's 40 degrees cooler, but it was still good food and fun.

Was hired to work at the Nook, in Saint Paul, right when I moved here. Didn't actually see the episode, but they advertised that they were on and my wife was excited. I made a mistake in not asking for a tour of the kitchen first, I just wanted to be working ASAP after the move, signed the tax forms and got my schedule. Showed up for my first day, kitchen is a teeny tiny closet packed with five of the tweakingest tweaker line cooks I've ever seen, and I came from Billings, Montana, and it was absolutely disgusting, grease caked onto everything. Listened for about five minutes to the tweaker who was supposed to be training me ramble on about God knows what, all the while I couldn't take my eyes off of all the filth, all the half rotten produce in the line coolers, the gray, about to go bad, probably already actually bad burger patties, and I said I needed to go to the bathroom, clocked out 12 minutes into my shift, and drove home as fast as I could. Didn't have much respect for Guy fieri before, now I have absolutely zero respect for him, and if he says a place is good, it's actually dog shit. Immediately got a much better gig at a much nicer place, one I'm actually proud to say I work at, with much better pay.

When I was in college I went to the Lake Effect diner in Buffalo, NY. It even had a little cartoon drawing of Guy's head on the wall. The fried fish was good and a huge portion for the price. The poutine was probably the best I've had east of Niagara Falls. Sadly it closed earlier this year because of the labor shortage

have a drive in diner nearby that was featured on the show. known locally as a place with a massive menu full of bad food, made me realize I shouldn't take Fieri's recommendation as any indication of quality in the future

Went to a bunch in Baltimore when my ex lived there. They were just okay, not really better than average. And after each meal I was still in Baltimore.

Not related to guy, but I once hard Scott Conant on a podcast and he spike of a hidden pizza counter in the cosmopolitan hotel on the vegas strip.

When I was in town I tracked it down and found it at the end of what seemed like a service corridor by a billiards hall in yhe cosmo.

Best pizza I ever ate in my life

I've been to maybe half a dozen and they've all been disappointing. He goes to literal diners, drive-ins, and dives. Those places aren't known for quality. And guess what? After they're on TV they turn from local haunts to tourist attractions, and they raise their prices and the quality goes down because they can't keep up with the demand. I've also been to a couple of his restaurants, before he got famous, and they're terrible.

Back when I was on the beat near UCLA there was this spot called Fat Jerry's that had great sandwiches. Perfect for when I was on a bulk. Once went there an hour before my shift started, turns out Guy Fieri was having the episode filmed on the spot as I walked in. Didn't realize this as I placed my order. I give the guy my debit card and he says "no it's free." Naturally I asked for 6 sandwiches because why not. Didn't realize they were filming for it until I saw Guy Fieri talking to the owner. When the episode aired I realized all the patrons that were there that said they go there all the time were just paid actors. I actually went there a lot at different hours and never seen any of those people.

Holy shit I'm dumb. I always wondered how they always acted so cool under pressure with a camera on them....

Rule of thumb, almost all reality shows are scripted and almost everyone that's in front of the camera will be an actor.

>Have you ever visited a restaurant that was featured in an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

yes, yakitori jinbei in georgia

the korean hot chicken was extremely sweet and covered with a thick sugary sauce. however, it was also incredibly good, some of the best chicken i've ever eaten without a doubt. though the sauce is sugary it's never cloying, it works with the savoriness in perfect ratio

I've been to a bunch of the ones in Chicago. Only one I didn't really care for was Panozzo's, which was also the only one I went to after it had appeared on the show and had pictures of him everywhere. Wasn't even a diner, drive in or dive although a lot of the places in cities aren't either it seems.

>> No.17113889

This is cheating since I live in one of his most-visited cities but
>Arnold's Country Kitchen in Nashville, TN
Best cafeteria around, I wish it wasn't so busy
>Athens Family Restaurant in Nashville, TN
Great food although it's an odd mix of stuff
>Bro's Cajun Cuisine in Nashville, TN
Was the best Cajun place in Nashville easily, but I think they're closed now. It was also pretty sketchy inside
>Fattoush Cafe in Nashville, TN
Better than average Middle Eastern food, I hit this place up all the time when I worked on Church Street. Unfortunately it just aired so will be unable to return until people forget about it
>Jamaica Way Restaurant and Catering in Nashville, TN
Good food but staff is on BPT. I went to the Hayes Street location for work lunch one day and ended up being there over two hours waiting on food when there were only two tables with people
>Leonard's BBQ in Memphis, TN
I honestly don't remember this one much, it was a long time ago
>Martin's BBQ Joint in Nolensville, TN
Great BBQ although maybe too sanitized for some people
>Mas Tacos Por Favor in Nashville, TN
The food is hipster-oriented and it's a good place to get shot

>> No.17114606

I've been to two. The first one I've been to a couple of times before the show, and it is pretty good. The second I went to after seeing it on the show, it was pretty meh and eventually it even closed down for good.
