That stuff tastes like shit, over commercialised American shyte.
If you want a decent whisky get a Western Isle one to start with, not too smokey or peaty though

Why would you get Isle whiskey if you don't like peat?

Scotch usually tastes more woody and smokey. Burbon usually tastes more fruity.

But cheap whiskey all tastes the same. Like shit. It burns your face off. Don't buy cheap whiskey.

Water if it was made out of wood and the wood is on fire. Literally nothing more entertaining in the world than watching a person take their first drink of whiskey. A dozen different emotions washing over their face in the span of 5 seconds followed by coughing.

Bourbon is woodier than scotch, it's aged in new barrels

wood/barrel ageing. Usually sweet caramel and vanilla, touch of malt. Bourbon tastes more woody as it has to use fresh barrels, but can be harsh as it is usually no older than 3 years. Rye tastes a little wild/has an unexpected note to my palette. Scotch is softer as it usually uses used barrels which have had a lot of the character soaked out of them, but they tend to age them longer which makes it mellower, but sometimes with a strong and assertive tannin structure. The cheaper more commercial products are arguably better to drink for the beginner because they avoid distinctive signature flavours and are usually more balanced and less assertive. Distinctive 'character' whisky usually tastes like something and that is usually out of balance. Of course the experienced drinker gets bored of the more balanced and soft blends and wants to taste something distinctive.

Basically if you know what tannins taste like and what happens with time you'll be able to figure it out. I find most whisky tastes of wood and barrel ageing.

That one tastes like fake banana flavor and glue
Unironically one of my favorites and I've had hundreds. It's just that it's what I drank in bars in my 20s. Once I open a bottle of JD it will be gone within a week, meanwhile I have ~40 whiskeys on my shelf right now

Bourbon- tastes like a blast of vanilla and is super sweet. Good for novices.
Scotch- more complex and a variety of flavors. Can taste fruity, meaty, like sherry etc. Better balance of distillery character with the oak in Scotch too.

All alcohol tastes the same despite a few of them.

Gin is probably the worst shit unless you're an old man or a witch. I had a bottle of gin and nearly threw it away because of how bad it was, but I decided to finish it and made an oath to never buy it again.

Some wines are pretty fucking gnarly too, I have a malbec sitting on my desk that I would only ever use to get fucked up on. Tastes like wood and is definitely not a treat you eat with food. The best tasty wine out there is Sangria hands down.

Whiskey is so fucking overrates. Then again I only drank William Lawson, Jack Daniels, label red 5 and the one with game of thrones marketting.
