I'm doing some uni research about this stuff awareness here in pastaland but I got curious about it internationally.
Do local restaurants & shops where u live do this? If yes, is it through apps or other methods?

I raise cattle and my neighbor grows crops, we normally trade 1 a year, he gets a slaughtered cow and I get a shitload of grains. so yes it happens

I share moose I hunt with family, friends and the butcher who does the actual draining/meat cutting
Moose are massive animals, and even though you're limited on the number of tags you can get per year the amount of meat on even one good sized bull is more than I can eat before it goes bad
The butcher takes a few cuts in exchange for a discount, then I usually bring the rest back, hold a BBQ for relatives and friends of mine and give everyone who comes over some meat to take home with them

No wonder foodsharing has to be incentivized so much to greedy merchants when it's already commonplace in rural communities(or whatever you are I'm using broad terms)
I just don't tolerate good wasting. But also don't want people giving stuff away for free to strangers because they are forced to.

There's a sort of prevailing opinion in the USA that if you do this sort of thing, people will just wait for when it goes on sale and then hit you up, and you will lose money that way, so it is therefore more economical to simply throw it away. The only reason selling old bread works at all here is that it is noticeably worse than fresh, so not only is it about to go to waste, it's also being discounted for quality

During my poorfag college phase I got a good amount of my weekly food from a student food sharing project that collected out of date or broken food items from shops, private and fancier food sharing projects.
Shit was great, not just for the budget but also to try new things I would never have thought about buying otherwise.

I also still use the 2good2go bags from restaurants and shops every now and then, now mostly for the suprise, and a thing that lets you buy from local hunters.
