Beer is literally just improved water. Think about it, what's a simple way to take normal water and make it better? Add some grains, let it ferment (gut biome), have a little peppy-steppy (4-7% ABV), give a little calories and bubbles, etc. Only a fool would drink water when such a superior beverage exists.
