How old were you when you realized that, above all the noise, this is the best all purpose tabletop hot sauce on the market?

Young kids new to the hot sauce game will bring up their fancy what-have-you's, but this 153 year old recipe has stayed on the market and is stocked in nearly every food establishment for a reason.

Tabasco is the king of the vinegary sauces no doubt but it's ultimately limited in scope.
Did you know the peppers are harvested by hand? The workers compare the color of a pepper to a red stick they carry around and that's how they know when to pick.
The capitol of Louisiana to this day is red stick translated to french, Baton Rouge, to pay homage to the humble Tabasco

For anything you might want a bit of actual heat on, their scorpion sauce is way better (still got that vinegary base, just has some actual heat).

For anything you want the *sauce* to have a really good flavor all its own to enhance, the habanero sauce is way better (it isn't hot, but sure tastes good).

If you need super tasty *and* heat, have to look elsewhere in super sauce land. Some of the Jamaican influenced death sauces are pretty good -- I forget the name of the one I like the most because it is hard to get where I live, but most of the Jamaican stuff made from ghost peppers has been really tasty (a bit sour, a bit fruity, and some good heat to them).

For people who larp as liking hot sauces but really just want juicyjuice on their food, there are a wide variety of better-than-salt totally heatless "hot sauces" that are quite good. Tabasco's jalapeno, Texas Pete, Marie Sharpe's (all three "levels" are literally the same mild hotness for some bizarre reason -- just buy whichever is cheaper), etc. All of these taste good on anything from a slice of pizza to a slice of apple (not joking), and you can pretend you like spice at the same time. Not knocking it because they aren't hot -- not everyone eats hot stuff the same way.

It isn't too far off, really. It just isn't used for many of the things I've seen it used for in the US. I spent years working in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Lots of sauces, lots of great food, most of it very poorly implemented outside. meh.

i like tabasco on my fried eggs, sometimes scrambled (usually prefer salsa there)
not sure of any other applications, but it works extremely well with fried eggs, i'd even say it's the best pairing imaginable
helps cut through the pork fat/butter, whatever i used to cook them
when it comes to value/cost ratio, it's tapatio
haven't bought any in awhile because i've got several bottles unopened that i'm still working through, but this shit used to be $1 for like 16 oz. or something crazy
rich in chili and garlic flavor, not too vinegary, works with a lot of cuisines, even cajun/creole foods, but especially mexican/tex-mex stuff
holy based

https://thetakeout.com/what-tabasco-diamond-reserve-going-for-2-500-on-ebay-1826089799
"Indeed, Diamond Reserve was—by my estimate—about 40 percent spicier than regular Tabasco. But it wasn’t just the spice that’s dialed up; the vinegar lands harder, and behind that tang is an aromatic, rounded fruitiness. And the relative thickness of Diamond Reserve gives it a certain creaminess, and somehow it feels more luxurious. Think of this as Tabasco concentrated, or Tabasco squared. I added a few drops of this onto raw oysters and it was absolutely stellar—an all-in-one spicy mignonette."

Green Tabasco has the best flavor, but since you need to put about 1/5 the bottle in a bowl of soup it isn't very economical. Shit gets expensive. I like actually hot sauce for certain applications, I'm not a wimp. But green Tabasco is excellent on chicken

I dont even like Tobasco sauce but this sauce is definitely an exception; it is respectably hot.

Its at LEAST half the price of other very hot sauces and usually tastes better than them as well.
