You don't. People who enjoy eating oatmeal are gluttons for punishment. Oats have been traditionally used to feed animals (i.e: horses, Scotts) and as a suppository.

Apple butter, and chia seeds are nice for texture if you don’t mind soaking them. Overnight oats isn’t bad if you mix enough tasty shit in like the other anons are suggesting

Oats are delicious. If it wasn't for humble grains like the temperate common oat the great white empires of history would never have risen. Use it as a sausage filling or just enjoy a hearty bowl of steel cut oats with a splash of cream, a pinch of salt and a drop of maple syrup

Buy a box of flavored-oatmeal-packets, and mix them ~1:1 with plain unflavored oats.

Also, when trying to flavor oatmeal from scratch, MOST peoples' fatal mistakes are a lack of salt, and no fat. I don't do savory oats, but salt is literally the taste that's missing when people try to sweeten their own oats, that they can never quite put their finger on.

Try brown sugar and a good-sized pat of salted butter. You will be amazed.

oh actually this does remind me
I never really worked out a recipe for it, just kinda threw it together a couple times, but
I'd get an oiled skillet up to temperature (sometimes with butter, but I found coconut oil actually does very well) and throw on dry "old fashioned oats" (the un-cut ones) and stir them around a bit to get them toasted, then in a little bowl I'd mix up vanilla extract (even the cheap imitation, I never minded) and sugar, and pour it over the oats when they're about to burn. Then stir them around, keeping them moving in the pan until they start to crisp up. Pretty much skillet-fried granola.

I buy the flavored quaker oats and I'll mix 1 pack of the flavored oats and double/triple that amount with regular rolled oats. Gives it some flavor and is still super cheap and filling.

Steel cut are just the whole oat grain (groat) with the inedible husk removed and roughly chopped. Old fashioned are steamed and flattened after having the husk removed. Steel cut are tastier and better, but they take longer to make.

Srsly though steel cut are so vastly superior to rolled oats it's not even fair. They do take longer to cook, which is why you cook up several servings some lazy afternoon and pop it in the fridge for later.

Don't sweeten it via stirring it all in to combine where you will never get enough without overdoing it.
Instead, layer it on top, and enjoy the sweetness as you cut down with your spoon, bite by bite, getting it on the top of each bite.

I cook my oats in 100% milk, or else half water, half milk, or at the very least add cream to the top. Oats need a shake of salt in the water too. Nuke 60% power, and in a large enough bowl not to get boil over esp if doing milk.

Toppings include fresh fruit, but usually, I toast some nuts such as pecans or sliced almonds in a small nonstick in a little butter, hit it with spices like cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, etc, and then add as a topping. I might use maple sugar or dark brown sugar. Honey if in the mood, love a couple chopped up dates. You need only a little in a thin layer. Fresh peaches are as good as bananas if you cook them with the oats together. To be decadant, I love dried cherries, or even cherry-flavored cranberries. A big glob of fig jam is good.

If you're feeling luxurious make apples and cinnamon topping. Cook diced apple in butter with sugar and a lot of cinnamon until apples are soft and the sauce gets sticky.

Also, fuck milk and put a tablespoon or two of heavy cream on top. The best hundred calories you'll ever add.

Here's my overnight steel cut oats recipe that lasts 5 days. It's so good that you might cum yourself. I hope you guys make it and then tell me what you think:
Ingredients:
>1 2/3 cups steel-cut oats
>4 cups water
>1/4 teaspoon salt
OPTIONAL MIX-INS:
>Milk (or soy milk)
>Cinnamon (or other spices)
>Raisins (or other dried fruit)
>Fresh berries
>Nuts (or seeds)
>Jam
>Honey

Bring the oats, water, and salt to a boil. Simmer for about 3 minutes then turn off the heat. Divide the oatmeal among 5 mason jars. I like pint-sized jars for this, as they allow a little more room for adding your mix-ins.
Let stand, uncovered, at room temperature for about an hour, then cap and refrigerate.

When you're hungry, pull one of them bitches out of the fridge. Take the cap off the jar and microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. Add milk, raisins, or other mix-ins. Eat it up.
