The humble stockpot. Many uses and always a staple to the kitchen.

I'm in the need of a new stockpot, is it worthwhile looking for a set or is it best to just buy a single 8-12 quart and be done with it?

looks like no ones putting stock into this thread

If you just need one more pot why would you need a set? Are you saying you want to be jewed?

>> No.16956787

I'd buy the biggest one that suits your needs that's still of decent quality. I have a giant stock pot that I never use because it has a really thin bottom. It's fine for making stock but any thick soups or stews are guaranteed to scorch on the bottom. The pot is in the basement collecting dust. I have a smaller Cuisinart one, probably 10 quart, that I use a lot more often since it's a better overall pot.

That's why I'm asking, is it worthwhile to buy a set, is it more economical

Don't bother with a set, it isn't more economical. Just buy good quality versions of what you need. I bought a 12 qt. Cuisinart stock pot that I'm happy with. It has large riveted handles, and heavy bottom.

Thanks! I'll look at just picking up individual pieces. I've been looking at Made In and Cuisinart as their prices are reasonable and are multi-ply

Do you see yourself needing to replace any other pots in the next year? If not, just build your arsenal one tool at a time

Just get the pieces you want individually.
Sets always include garbage merchandise the manufacturer can't get people to buy on their own.

Buy one with a thick base. The ones you can usually buy as a set tend to be thin as fuck.

Take the money you would spend on a set and put it into one high-quality pot. Dont chop out on pots and pans.
