Yeah, but the very idea is just jewed from basically all the yuro countries that border the atlantic to some degree. The only difference afaik is putting it on a bagel instead of a breadroll.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the US are probably the number one in terms of culinary variety (and also quality depending on where you are), but it’s all based on copying other cuisines.
Coming from the country of origin, it sometimes may appear like a coping mechanism to slap weird word varieties on food that’s been around forever and just got improved/altered slightly.
