Are beverages considered "food"?
Is water food?

>> No.16938817

water is not a beverage, so no.

>> No.16938827

>>16938817
So is lemonade food? It's just water but with sugar? Does that make it food? Or is only the dissolved lemonade syrup the actual food and the water is not food??

Foods are consumed for satiety.
Beverages are consumed for refreshment.

>> No.16938874

What about milk? It can be refreshing but also satiating.

Here's an age old trick to tell whether or not something is "food":

Say aloud to yourself: "Can I eat [insert nutritional substance]?" ex; "Can I eat water?"

The conclusion is no, water is not "food". This is still just a theory that is up for debate.

it's whether the substance's main function is hydration or energy intake.
Milk for example is considered a food, same with energy drinks. Ice is considered a beverage. You can eat a drink and you can drink a food.

Beverages that contain calories are also foods.
Water contains no calories and is therefore not a food.
>Ex. Beer is both a food and a beverage.

>> No.16939105

Milk is a food.
Smoothies are a food.
Most other liquids are drinks though.
Some people want to say it's about the calories in something, but that makes no sense because coke is not a food.

Maybe there's a certain threshold of protein that changes the category.

Is cum a food or a drink.

What if its neither? Vodkas main function is not hydration or energy intake but it still contains 100 calories per shot

The way I see it:
If you can live off of it for a prolonged period, it's a food.
If you can survive for a bit on it and still starve to death, it's not.

Its just because common language is very different from the technical specifications. Coke is a food technically, but commonly referred to as a beverage for obvious reasons.
