Do you ever drink Vodka neat or with a little ice, as you would Whisky?
Whenever I mention this to people irl they think it's super weird for some reason.

>> No.16934570

its because you live in america, people associate alcohol with being a depressed schizo with no social life or something like that
vodka has its own intricicies and youll only hear about them from people who care about that, but people who only know vodka as the "FINNA GET FUCKED UP G" booze r gay

>> No.16934624

Vodka is such a simple spirit that there's really no point to drinking it like that. There's usually no flavor to appreciate, you're just having cold, watered-down alcohol.
Obviously you can still do it, but it's a weird thing to do when you could have something like bourbon or gin and have other flavors in there.

Also this. I have a coworker who always gives me shit when I mention drinking, even though the guy's a good 100 pounds overweight.

The lack of flavor is an advantage in some contexts. Whisky with nice flavors is expensive as shit and cheap Whisky has atrificial, disgusting flavors. On the other hand, with a little sampling, you can find a cheap, bottom shelf Vodka that tastes like absolutely nothing and has no unpleasant flavors.
That's probably the reason why many Alcoholics go for Vodka, if they hapen to have a palette.

My go to order is a double of vodka with a twist of lemon on the rocks. Maybe a bit of tonic or soda water.
Honestly as much as people claim that vodka "has no taste" the base fermentation imparts some degree of difference between products. I find that American-produced vodkas are very sweet, whereas eastern European are pretty dry.

Picrel is the only thing I could describe as a "sipping vodka". It's impossibly smooth and actually has notes of bread and vanilla.

I want to have a meal of smoked trout, fingerling potatoes, and sour cream with a glass of vodka one of these days.

I usually drink grappa or eux di vie as my clear liquor.

>> No.16935307

vodka doesn't carry enough flavor to drink on its own. the subtle nuances are just overpowered by booze. if i'm sipping neat on a 35% or higher spirit, i'll want some stronger flavors to balance out the ethanol.
imo vodka is best used as cheap liquor to get drunk or as a way to add alcohol to a cocktail while maintaining a fairly neutral flavor.

If you're paying for the good shit then it won't taste of basically anything, so why would you want to drink it neat? I'd much rather be sipping a nice gin.

Most days. Neat vodka is my regular go-to after work. I think it has enough flavour (and I can taste the differences between bottles), but is inoffensive enough to not get in between enjoying the drink and getting buzzed.

here in bulgaria we don't put ice but we drink it chilled, from the fridge, same way we do rakia. can't imagine drinking room temperature vodka, sounds like a shitty experience. in general i don't think there's much point in drinking vodka at all when rakia exists.
when we were in high school we'd get vodka and drink it with juice and that was room temp but there's literally no reason to drink vodka and juice as an adult

Because of all the spirits it’s one of the few that tastes awful pretty much no matter what. Grey Goose is the only good vodka because you can’t taste the vodka.

It's pretty neutral. I guess it's almost the definition of a neutral spirit. Though I've seen people do it. Folks who like ethanol as a flavor in particular. It's not super common, but I've seen it.
