British cuisine is the most underrated cuisine because of all the unnecessary hate it gets from angry Americans. It's dishes are staple around the world but is unrecognized because of its ubiquitous

I spent 2 weeks in England (London, Oxford, Cambridge, Bath) visiting family and there was only 1 time I had a good meal which was at an indian restaurant. We went to Northern Ireland for a few days and this wasn't a problem though I swear the eggs tasted wildly different than what I was used to and I have no idea why. Considering I spent time in France/Germany/Italy/Greece afterwards and I ate some of the best food of my life there. Specifically lamb in Greece the most succulent excellent meal I've ever had that I still obviously think about today.

The most hate it gets is probably from the French, and justly so.

I mean, every country has poor people comfort food.

I went to England recently as a USA'er. Food was mostly good. Couldn't find any stand-out pizza... And I wish they would turn up the heat a bit on the oil when deep-frying fish, getting way too much oil in fried foods. But it was good other than that. The pastries were amazing, seems like there are a hundred bakeries everywhere you go with amazing pastries. Mushy peas is great, I'm thinking of starting to make that at home.

Oxford literally doesn't have any good restaurants. Everyone complains about it but what can we do? I'm surprised about London, though, as there's plenty of fantastic restaurants there which surpass the stuff I've eaten abroad.
>>16912621
Macaroni cheese and spaghetti bolognese are ubiquitous in any non European Italian restaurant I've been to (note, I personally dislike both dishes and don't understand why it's so wildly popular). Its also impossible to find an Indian restaurant without tikka masala and vindaloo. In America, they have a massive tendency to attribute English dishes to Ireland or their own country - for example, apple pie, pot roasts, and stews.
>>16912665
We're in a weird position where our poor people comfort food is the only thing anyone knows about our cuisine. Beans on toast, for example, is the most basic poor person comfort food there is, like its so basic I'm struggling to think of an American equivalent - maybe instant noodles? The same goes for fry ups, fish and chips, and bangers and mash.

Brit here.
Brit food is okay. It tastes fine, but isn't very adventurous.
Best food I ever had was Italian; it was a lamb dish of some sort and the meat was done so perfectly I could have cried. The chaps on the continent just know how to make food properly; can't explain it.
That is all. I now return to my tea and admiring my state-mandated portrait of the Queen. God bless.
