Tried this one recently, it was almost unnerving how much it tasted like cheescake.

Craft beer has been steadily gaining momentum since the 1970s. Noteworthy epicentres include the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the UK and the craft brewing scene in the American midwest. Mainland Europe of course has been enjoying fancy beers for hundreds of years.

Millennials in particular have taken to fine dining experiences in general-- not just beer, mind-- since as luxury items go food and drink is very affordable and it's not like any of these motherfuckers can buy a house or a lambo.

I think they're copying the weed industry by coming up with increasingly bizarre names for essentially the same thing as a marketing exercise.

In the US we start drinking bud light and wine in high school, and the 'advanced taste' hipsters eventually graduate to PBR, and if they went to college they move on to IPA's, and if they went to grad school they drink Belgian sours. So out here 9 of 10 sour drinkers are gonna be middle management hipsters guaranteed

Meanwhile, the kids who didn't go to college, who worked trades or flipped burgers, either graduated to drinking a thirty rack of natty light every evening (tradies) or chugging the cheapest grain liquor they can find, on top of smoking meth (burger flippers).
And then those of us who managed to be successful permaneets, like myself, spend our money buying psychs on the dark web. Most of my Bitcoin money has been spent on DMT.

r*ddit-type NPCs with no identity like to take things like """craft""" beer and create an identity by finding obscure memeshit. If you ever talk to these people in real life, they haven't a single independent though and just say stuff like "have you ever tried Founders(TM) KBS? it's really good". You can also replace this with superhero movies, restaurants, etc. "Have you been to X socially acceptable place? It's really good." "Have you seen X socially acceptable Netflix show? Depends on where. In the US? Newer Liberal shitholes are usually based in hippie watering hole areas like Austin where there's only hard water. They claim it makes the beer "taste" better. Reality is they have to douse it in fruits and sours, or just hop the everliving fuck out of it and make frankenbeers like triple IPAs. All of which are also shit and poorly contrived.

Nearly all food items have or will have a period when the public grows tired/uniterested in the benefits of industrial production (even quality, long shelf life, cheap price) and instead start to look for more sophisticated version of the familiar tastes.

They're just desperate grabs for market penetration. The craft beer market is bloated and hard to gain a foothold in so breweries make absurd combinations to get people to talk about them and or to catch eyes at the bar/taphouse or at the bottle shop to make sales.

It's ultimately a losing strategy because unless the rest of your catalog is decent you're not actually going to penetrate past the initial sale of Butterscotch Marshmallow Pony Butthole Porter when it's a 50/50 tossup for a customer actually liking it.

Trust me, if lagers and wheats sold better, I’d be happy making only German, Czech, and Belgian style beers. But gimmicks grab attention and make money, at least in the short term, so that’s what we have to make - at least in the part of the country where I live.
