you learn to cook by cooking

start with easy stuff, find and follow recipes online, buy ingredients you like and search for recipes with those into

Get a Betty Crocker cookbook and start from there, that's what my mom got me for my first place on my own.

Additionally (not my write-up):
>Download: Gordon Ramsay Masterclass Torrent

>Watch: Jacques Pepin Essentials

Make your way through the new Pepin "cooking at home" videos, his older Fast Food My Way series and the Yan Can Cook series.

Just about anything you could think to want to cook he's done a recipe for.

The last guy isn't the same league as above but he does a lot of bbq, burgers & meat cooking that can be recreated on a stovetop frypan or an oven.

Between Ramsay, Pepin, John & Yan you should be introduced to a wide variety of techniques from basic all the way to expert tier, ingredient usage from cheap to expensive and give you ideas, and the core techniques of classic French, modern Western/American and centuries old Asian cooking. My one note is use Sunflower oil not Olive oil when you start.

As for utensils, find a commercial restaurant supply store & buy simple stainless steel pots with glass or steel lids:
>Pair of 8 inch chef knives. Start with the cheapest steel then upgrade to Tojiro DP3 once past beginner stage.
>Small pairing knife
>Measuring spoon set
>Small saucepan (4 to 6 eggs)
>Large saucepan
>10 Inch frypan
>Stockpot, 7 or 8 litre/quart
>Oven roasting tray
>Aluminium baking sheet tray
>Bamboo cutting board
>Plastic board for chicken/pork
>Peeler
>Ladle, Spatula, Stirring Spoon

i cant recommend any specific channels but sticking "how to chop [ingredient]" into youtube can be a great resource, since prep can be the most time consuming activity for a newbie. big time savings can be made while cooking if you can prep something while something else cooks, but if you dont know what you're doing you will either end up burning stuff or have to spend time prepping everything first then more time standing watching it cook while you add ingredients at their designated times. i find watching youtube recipes doesn't teach you this since they almost always have everything prepped for the sake of having a more appealing video
also probably worth picking up a sharpening steel and eventually a stone, since trying to learn knife skills with a dull knife will be a pain
also look up info on how to safely handle and store food, you don't want to end up with 8 cups of rice and 12lbs of meatballs in a stockpot in your freezer that you can't eat

Probably on purpose. She did good things for American Cooks but most of what she proposes no longer are appropriate.

I just started eating out every day. Luckily I have no debt and a good paying job. I can't imagine wasting my time in the kitchen "prepping" shit like a fucking fag.

Don't listen to this idiot.

You're not gonna learn a whole lot by following recipes you find on Google. Basic homecooking is what you need. That means learning how simple soups, sauces, and gravies are to make. Why? Cause you're probably gonna run out of cash at some point while you learn how to run a house to start with and these things use what you might think is trash and shit that's cheap (flour namely). And when you understand why they work and how they work, you'll understand a lot more about cooking.
