Back in the day in the UK, some beer companies used to sell a "Party Seven" can of seven pints (4L), which you cut open with a can opener.

If you accidentally shook them before piercing the lid they tended to spray beer all over the room lel

Bring it back lads. You can buy cider in 2 and 3 litre bottles here but not beer, like I've seen in some European countries. Most beer here is sold in cans or bottles, or the odd keg.

What's the advantage of those over just buying a multipack? I can't imagine pouring from one of those would be the easiest.

There was a short period in the early 90s when they sold beer in PET bottles, didn't last long though as the bottles are slightly gas permeable and would go off quickly. I got to drink a lot of cheap Theakstons and Ruddles for a while anyway.
