Its called a béchamel and its hard to get down. Use block cheese not pre shredded and follow a recipe closely. Godspeed anon.

The flour coating on it will mess up the sauce. Get a cheapo grater at your local grocer next time you go.

whisk up a bit of powdered mustard & white vinegar and add that, maybe a bit of black pepper too, thos are some really underrated mac n cheese ingredients and really makes the flavour pop

all you have to do is not burn the butter, add the warmed milk slowly, and then be patient while it thickens. heat off before you add the cheese and don't forget a bit of salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

bag cheese usually just tastes like nothing, use the sharpest cheddar you have if you want it to actually taste good. you could use some jack cheese if that's all you have but it'll be very bland so add some spices, seasoned salt is pretty good on mac and cheese.

what you have on hand is fine, not the deal but it can work. melt the butter, add milk, stir to incorporate them better, get it to a temperature just warm enough to melt the cheese, add the cheese little by little stirring as you go, season to taste

add some some bread crumbs to the mac and cheese afterwards to make it a little crusty, if you like that.

I like turmeric in mine. Make it yellow and I like the flavor.

the sauce ended up having the consistency of slightly runny mashed potatoes after i added the cheese

i added the milk before it started browning, is that correct?
