It’s more about avoiding herbicides/pesticides, farmers often use herbicide straight on potatoes to kill off leaves before harvest and make it easier. For other gmo crops, it’s a concern not directly because gmo, but more so because you get herbicide-resistant crop strains that can just be drenched in the stuff.
