NYCcel here. Thinking of taking up DoorDash/UberEats as a side hustle using a bike.

Anyone who delivers on a bike in metro areas got tips?

>don't use a fixie
>make sure you use one of the cube insulated backpacks
>cut a drink holder out of a square of flat foam, and use velcro strips to keep it anchored in bottom of bag
>use smaller bags inside of the cube bag to keep different orders separate, and to keep drinks from getting warm, or food from getting cold
>eat enough carbs
>use phone mount on handlebars
>buy a u-lock and use it every time you get off bike, even for "just a second"
>get bike insurance, it's cheap af
>wait for orders near clusters of restaurants

I did bicycle delivery for about a year in Seattle. If you know your city well, you can make much more money than people in cars. You're just faster (subverting traffic, shortcuts, never have to worry about parking) and as long as you can keep your delivery triangle small in distance, you can just hammer out way more orders than anyone else.

After fuel and maintenance do you even make money from good delivery?

Guess what costs just a few dollars, you dying or ending paraplegic. No I'm not trolling I've seen it first hand. Trafic is a bitch. Better look for something else, this job is literally a death sentece. You know it's real when your biker friend got ran over 2 times waiting in a red light. He rode a motorbike, but you get the point. I've done delivery by bike and by motrobike (small one), and motorbike is 100 times worse, that doesn't make the bike safe though.

Based Seattle bike couriers. I didn't have a car for a couple months and ordered a ton of delivery, this one kid on a bike was hands down the best damn driver out there. I wish there was a way to select specific delivery guys because his orders were always 100% correct and usually half the wait time.
