It’s only a competition between gas and induction as electric resistive is a piece of shit. But really the winner is induction:

Fastest one to get heat into the pan.
Easy to perfectly replicate temps.
Easy to put on low simmers (I’ve found low gas can splutter and put itself out).
Easy to clean.
Looks better.

Induction being "safer" is a meme anyway. Yes, you could turn on the hob and touch it without being burned but how often does that actually happen? You will always have a pan on it when you turn it on, the danger with electric is touching it after you've moved the pan off of it when the ring is still hot, and induction will still burn you in that case because the pan has heated up the hob.

Induction is alright for pans when you're cooking something that doesn't benefit from constantly adjusting the temperature by way of lifting or maneuvering the pan, in which case gas is clearly better.
For pots, induction is better at boiling water and equal at simmering, but gas is better for everything else because the heat is better distributed along the sides whereas induction concentrates too much on the bottom.

>Induction being "safer" is a meme anyway
All cooktops are perfectly safe as long as they’re in proper working order and being used by someone who isn’t retarded. Referring to one as more/less safe isn’t referring to you burning yourself on a hot surface because you did something stupid.
The “unsafe” aspect usually implies instances of it being turned on unintentionally, or by a kid whose retard parent didn’t teach it to not fuck with certain things.
Dumbass kid turns on a coil or gas stove, you now have a burning hot thing and possible ignition source for a fire. Dumbass kid turns on an induction stove and no real issue, unless you’re the sort of slob who leaves dirty cookware on the stove until you feel like cleaning it.

If a restaurant is more than 20 years old you can bet it uses gas because electric stoves were slow as shit back then and a gas stove barely requires maintainence and thus has the reliability as professional kitchen needs. I wish they made induction with knobs. The touch surface is a interaction design shithole.
>Wet or damp fingers?
Has a slightly harder time registering your finger and may "stick" the activation despite removing finger. Repeated presses on wet spot has same problem so you have to wipe it every time.
>1/3" of a piece of paper is touching the UI?
BEEP BEEP BEEP REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECT
>Press two options at once or close to each other?
One is overridden so you have to wait a little.
>Cooklet presses "back" on effect which turns it to max immediately
Pan risks warping because of the increased effect.

Don't abandon the analogue stuff. You're going to miss twisting a knob at the fraction of a second rather than holding a touch interface for 5 seconds to go from max to min.

None of you have a WORSE stove than mine. It's a "safety" electric glass top stove.
When I want to do stuff like boil a large pot of water on max it measures the surface temp on each zone and if it exceed [number] a light starts flashing and the heat is reduced to 20%. Which means it NEVER boils. UNLESS I stand in front of it where the "activity eye" acknowledges I'm in front of it. If I leave the area of the eye it checks every 10 seconds and reduces heat if I don't wave a hand in front of it. It doesn't do this on low temps but I don't heat my pans and pots on god damn 50%, it doesn't heat fast enough on maxx to warp them anyway.

To add salt into my wounds dealing with this it doesn't go up in heat once cooled enough to fuck off but you MUST stand in salute in front of the EYE OF SAUCEMON and make sure to not put on too much heat so it doesn't cut the heat off by the ankles again.
This basically means I'm chained to the stove or have to do acrobatics next to it while cutting up shit that's supposed to go into the pot when it boils BUT NEVER DOES UNLESS I KNEEL IN FRONT OF IT.
Nothing boils, nothing simmers, nothing fries, it just slaps it around with the warmth of an armpit if not shown enough affection.

High end gas is the best, the ones that can go really low to really high and cover a large area with multiple flames. Cheap induction is better than cheap gas where 80% of the knob is on max flames. Electric is a piece of shit that can go die in the trashcan of cooking history.

Induction does have precise temps but is limited by its steps, I find myself wanting the temp to be between two numbers. Plus pulsing at low temps can be a pain as are the safety features. Changing temps is more or less equally as quick. Faster than gas to boil water and easier to clean though. I like the timer feature on induction, I can leave stuff simmering without any care of it burning.

>> No.16791700

I recently moved into an apartment with a gas stove for the first time. It gets a great sear on meat, and it boils water real fast, but I still feel really nervous turning it on. Getting the spark to catch seems really finicky. I hate when I have to do it multiple times, and I end up with a mini explosion when it finally lights. I'm always afraid I'm going to burn the place down. I'd rather go back to electric honestly.

It's probably an infrared sensor, which detects infrared energy given off by your body making using a moving toy useless. You can test this by holding your hand as still as possible near/in front of it and seeing if it let's you boil water, or also taking a tv remote (make sure it's one of the older ones that has an led in the front) and point it at the sensor and hold down or spam a random button. If you do this and it let's you boil water then it's infrared.

If you confirm this I'll post a simple led blinker circuit you can build, or maybe you can buy one online. Are you handy with electronics or have any friends that are?

If it's not IR it's probably ultrasonic, which would be harder to defeat.

Pic related is an IR sensor but they don't have to look like this and I'm just including it for post visibility.

We got a problem engineer-kun. I tested the sensor by overheating a stove zone then when it lowered the heat and waited for me to walk in front of it I instead stood far to the side of it and waved a long broom in front of the sensor. It triggered and increased the heat again. So it's not infrared in this case then?

The problem I discovered is that it's not very sensitive. I had to wave the broom several times and real close to the sensor for it to pick it up. Makes me doubt a small toy will trip it.
See pic related. It says "movement sensor" specifically but I was unsure if that was just a way to tell your average Joe "it's a sensor that picks up movement somehow, don't worry".

Fig.1 shows the sensor range.

Fig.2 shows:
1. Lighs up when a zone is ON
2. Lights up When the oven is ON
3. Lights up when safety temp has been exceeded in a zone. Also starts flashing when "the function is adjusting/calibrating and upon error".
4. Movementsensor

It also says on the second page that blocking the sensor makes the whole thing shut off. I think fucking up the sensor will make the whole thing go error and refuse to work.
The external countertop is starting to feel like the only solution here.
