Why are all the ciders sold in the US so sickeningly sweet?

>> No.16745314

Even their bread is sugared.

>> No.16745316

because they aren't? get a dry cider

>> No.16745318

Because it's more palatable, and thus sells better.

There are tons of non-sweet ciders in the US as well, they just aren't mass-marketed like angry orchard, woodchuck, or strongbow.

To my fucking misery this is the truth. Look for Brownberry Italian bread. Our palette has been raped by corn syrup so even bakeries add a bunch of sugar.

And as other said, hard cider more marketed towards women so it's like drinking fucking candy. When I went to the UK I couldn't stop ordering it over beer. Do any anons have a recommendation for something similar to bong cider in burgerland?

Where do you live? Most good cider isn't mass marketed across all 50 states. Most of the good cider is going to be made locally. I have seen ANXO, which makes some excellent bruts, up here in MN, so you might find them in your local liquor store, too. Just shop around, and try new brands.

Local can mean a multitude of things. It can extend from your farmers market all the way across into a tri-state complex. I see more dry cider available now. But it's probably because people hear that it's made with apples, and apples are sweet, and they don't understand how fermentation works to create alcohol and that you can end up with very little sugar left in the final product. All the mead is quite sweet too for a similar reason that people know it's made from honey. Most people probably don't think about how wine and beer is initially made from a sweet liquid either.

traditionally made cider was often made with any fuckin apple they could find and is generally strong.
