I remember reading a post here about how we often choose to drink instead of seeking help because we're afraid of dragging others into our problems. It's easy to just anonymously tell someone on 4chan to "stop drinking" and "seek help", but the problems tend to run far deeper than that. (Consider how you're able to ask for help candidly here, but not in real life.) We often even drink to cope with our own problems because we think it's better to hurt ourselves through self-medication instead of potentially hurting others by reaching out and sharing out problems.
