McDonalds is trash, but it's because it's trash-tier fast food.
Literally any other fast food place is better than McDonalds, and everyone knows it- even McDonalds. They're circling the drain, that's why they're pulling every "ace up their sleeves": All-day breakfast, buying out Tim Hortons' coffee supplier, "McCafe" pastries and mini-donuts, constantly cycling in "old favorites" like the McRib, etc.
Only poor, stupid, and extremely intoxicated people choose McDonalds.

When it comes to "go-to" fast food, Wendy's is hard to beat. I can get two junior bacon cheeseburgers for less than the price of any standard-size sandwich anywhere else, even at Wendy's itself. Chicken is good.
A&W is also pretty good, especially their standard and specialty burgers. "Buddy burgers" are pretty cheap, but noticeably smaller, with less features, and still more expensive than Wendys' JBC. Chicken is kinda dry. Great root beer. Also I'm Canadian and apparently our A&Ws are good but American ones are shit.
Burger King is barely one step above McDonalds. Trashy to the max. Simple as.
Everything from Hardees is just kind of... off. Like, the menu items look and sound like what you'd expect, but when you actually get them and eat them, they're always just shy of the expected flavors, textures, and temperatures.
The last Arby's finally left my city, leaving me stranded with no seasoned curly fries. Roast beef and cheddars were cheap, even the deluxe ones with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo. Dollar menu to rival Wendys. Good side items.
Subway has its own thing at this point. Apparently they actually outnumber McDonalds locations in almost any given city across the West. I feel bad for Quiznos and other "sub" places trying to compete.
5 Guys is overpriced, overhyped, and mediocre. Go once, just to get a custom burger that tastes like any other burger, and a bag full of 3 potatoes worth of soggy, bland fries.

And that's only most of the "sandwich" chains in my city.

I don't eat much mcdonald's, but I'll usually get the 2x cheeseburger or quarter pounder with cheese with coke and fries. I like the vanilla milkshakes too. For breakfast my favorite is by far the bacon egg and cheese biscuit.

My mom would always get me mcdonalds whenever I had a doctors appointment, and my grandpa always used to call it "Mickey Donalds". Good memories.
