Here in NC the state owns all the liquor stores (other places can sell beer and wine). The funny thing is that every time I go in there looking for the cheap bottom shelf vodka, it's always a new brand. Last time it was Mr. Boston. That's not a problem, it just seems bizarre that they always have one brand of 1.75L for $11, and the other cheap crap is $12, $13,, $14, and all of them seem to play musical chairs to see which one is the cheap one. We have so many supply problems here in Ohio with hard liquor, and literally all of it stems from the distribution side, because Ohio is so stringent and backwards in how it acquires product, how it brings new product into the state, and how it handles shipments.

Like, just as an example, every week the state will without consulting your agency go through your shipment list and remove every case it considers "superfluous", which often results in anywhere from 80 to over 300 cases being shaved off your order. And most of that shit is typically stuff you desperately need, such as well tequilas to supply to bars for wholesale. And to get those cases unremoved and back on your order, you have to call into the state and go through an entire process with them.

Except, guess what? This is so backwards and self-sabotaging that the whole shipment process has become bogged down and the state can't keep up, because it has to field calls from EVERY AGENCY IN THE STATE, every single week, to sort out orders that the state didn't need to tamper with in the first place. The removals are arbitrary and done without consulting the agency, instead of a case-by-case consultation to actually determine what can be removed without incident.

This is a problem that would not have existed if ohlq hadn't gone out of their way to create it and justify their bureaucracy's existence.
