If you can make a decent chicken soup you've got a whole load of fucking options to work with.

cook some dry pasta in your chicken soup and you've got classic chicken noodle.

Or throw in a handfull of pearl barley or rice

Mix in some flour slurry and some milk or a little cream and par-cook some potatoes in your soup and you've got the start of a chowder

or cook that down and you've got a chicken-pot pie filling.

Spanish Garlic Soup. This stuff is dirt cheap to make, super filling, gauranteed to whip your cold or your sinus infection or your sore throat in the ass.

Basically just simmer some minced garlic in some olive oil. Throw in a handfull of chopped ham or bacon. Fill with whatever chicken stock you got on hand. Let it simmer for a bit then crack an egg into it and let it kinda poach in the soup to your liking.

I usually throw in a couple dashes of red wine vinegar and some chili flakes too but you do you.

Depends on the culture and the type of soup. Euro/western soups are usually just eaten with a spoon. Those soups which have long noodles or big pieces of foods in them might be eaten with chopsticks or a fork.

>Why do you eat soup, instead of just eating the noodles and the meat and whatever else without the water?
The "water" as you put it is goddamn delicious. If you ask me the stock cooked from poultry is a lot tastier than the meat is. It's also a great way to reduce waste. Once you've eaten meat off an animal you can make soup using the bones.

Beets have these funny things on them called leaves, which surprise are green! I doubt they sell the leaves separate so to get them you buy them still on the beet itself. Seems a little weird you didn't start by frying your sausage, removing it, and then starting your veg in the sausage fat. I feel like the extra color on the sausage would add flavor.

But decent looking soup overall.

it's about browning the meat before hand. I personally like to fry the meat first, remove, then use the vegetables to deglaze the pan. But From what I understand you get a bit of a different flavor from just cooking everything together at once. Have you tried it both ways?

The amount of liquid. Soup is ingredients boiled in a pan full of stock and stew is simmering ingredients with enough liquid to cover them.
Some stews make great soups though. My favorite is Cassoulet, I always add more liquid so it's more like soup.

Can someone help improve my standard vegetable soup recipe? It's cheap and nutritious, and I've experimented with it a good bit but don't what else I can do or add.
>roast cabbage, carrot, garlic, and ginger in the oven
>into a pot with water
>add soy sauce, oyster sauce, dried basil
>optional ingredients based on what I have: orange peel and chili oil
I've tried roasting the vegetables in the pot I'm cooking them in, but roasting them in the oven instead seems to bring out vegetables flavor better to me. I've also tried doing this with the soy sauce added so it cooks a bit and it tastes interesting, but a bit too bitter and kind of overpowers the rest of the vegetables. I also don't know what other vegetables or cheap ingredients I could add

I tried to be creative w/ Cassava, turned out better than I thought. Cassava holds its shape surprisingly well short of cooked to shit before turning to mush. It is also very dense, much denser than all the tubers, so it does feels more than eating bean than tatos.
